Hey,

I might get an offer for a job in sudbury, I was just wondering, if someone could tell me what type of city it is. I'm gonna be there for a year, so i would need a place to live. what is the price range for one bedroom apartment? and where can i search for them?
also are there any good workout gyms? I have never been there. so i don't know much about the city.

thanks.

Wiki is your friend! I have been there before. It's a mining town, not much to do.

It's Thunder Bay-lite.

I lived in Sudbury for 10 years until I graduated High School. Definitely miss my friends but not the city. Nothing to do at all except for crappy bars which are filled with underage teens with fake ID's. As for apartment costs, depends where of course (downtown or New Sudbury). You're probably looking at 400$ for a decent 1 bedroom.

That pic is dated. Sudbury now is a beautiful city with lots of green spaces and beautiful lakes.

They did a very good job a fixing up the pollution and received UN Environmental Award for their effort. Science north and the Great Nickel are the city's attraction. I go back there with my GF every summer.

Ha ha thats rich! Visiting for a weekend is different from living there.

You don't get "RedFlagDeals" at your local FutureShop or BestBuy, that's for sure!

And white people ... lots and lots of white people (I would assume).

Sudbury is the commercial centre for the northern part. Therefore it has everything you would need. It is cheap to live there (atleast for housing) and it's beautiful in the summer and if you like the outdoors it's great.

however... it is not a big city either. there isn't anywhere else to go within 100km so you better like the entertainment options in sudbury or you are out of luck. also, the winters are brutal.

I had a friend that lived there for a number of years. Back when they were filming part of the original X-Men movie there my friend thought it was a great idea "because when they're filming the post-apocalyptic scenes, they won't have to build any sets".

However, my wife and I have taken a couple of trips there and always found it pleasant for a few days duration.

Nothing, it just needs to be said at least once.
When people ask "How an area is," though they're not asking directly, they're interested in that information as well.
When somebody moves to Jane & Finch, I tell them there's a lot of poverty and crime, flat out ...
When somebody moves to Sauga or Brampton, I tell them it's known for being the motherland ...

If somebody moves to Sudbury, you tell them unlike Toronto or metro cities, it's very caucasian in population. It just needs to be said in the discussion, that's all. Make-up of the community.

thank you all for your input.

If I get the job, I will be there for exactly 12 months. and all i need is a place to live, and a Gym for workout. and I don't know if there any good gyms, with nice equipment and maybe a pool.

Eye lids are known to freeze shut in Sudbury so ensure you have a nice honey to keep your warm out there.
