Who would bother bombing SFU of all places? It's like a 15 minute drive from civilization in all directions.
Jokes aside though, I hope it's just some douchebag copycat trying to screw things over for people; my girlfriend is up there right now :|

Happens all the time, usually bomb threats at colleges are ignored. Its exam season, somone hasn't studied enough and they are trying to get some more time or get it cancelled. If it wasn't for the incident at VT they wouldn't have even reported it.

Well, my college had a bomb threat called in today as well. They didn't tell any of the students and they didn't really make much of a deal of it. There were a few cops walking around non-chalantly, but not evacuations. The scary thing that I found out was that during the summer the cops did a full simulation of a gunman on the campus, They did the whole works, swat team, guns drawn, all of it. So if it happened at my campus the cops already know the full layout of the campus and have an attack plan setup in case something like this happens.
OC is where I go btw.

the sad part about infamy is that fools will copycat cho's lunacy. . .this may be the beginning of much more selfish, narcissistic behaviour

it will and the media will have to share in the blame (of future copycat incidents) as I'm sure that what NBC and other outlets did will lead to directly encouraging someone...

I'm doing coop, so I'm not on campus this semester. I should be safe:) . However Virginia Tech aslo received bomb threats, before the gunman went out and killed 33 people including himself.

Yep same with us. I don't think we ever had a bomb threat to postpone an exam, but we did have like 5 fire alarms one term during exams.

It is routine procedure at most universities and colleges to ignore bomb threats. If they give in it sends a message. I remember in one of my classes someone called in a bomb threat during mid term season. The call was recorded by the schools PBX system so the cops went to all of the classes and played a sample of the recording in case any of us could identify the voice. They even posted it on the website and put up a reward for anyone who identified the voice and lead to a conviction. They were successful in catching the guy. They did more investigation to prove that it was the guy, but once they've narrowed it down to a few suspects it is pretty easy to collect evidence to prove guilt. I think it will become standard procedure for colleges to record phone calls for this reason.

They gave a $250 cash reward. Which is a lot better than a class.
