You're told by the doctor you may need a biopsy.

Went to the doctor about a couple lumps I found underneath my chin. He said it may just be lymph nodes, but if they dont disappear in 2 weeks to come back in for blood work and biopsy.

Takes the wind out of your sails thats for sure.

Maybe nothing to worry about, but still havent that said to you and the word cancer in the same sentence just doesnt make you feel all warm and fuzzy.

Now to tell my wife tonight. Im at work and just kinda in a daze right now

Don't sweat it too much, hopefully it's just pre-cautionary measures and turns out to be nothing.

I was told back in Wpg, about 10 years ago, that I had a very rare form of lukemia (suspected terminal as well). After 3 bone marrow tests, and 2 weeks of waiting, they realized they made an error and all it was was an allergic reaction to a post surgery medication.

It may be nothing since you are scaring yourself by thinking you are going to get cancer. My brother had some bumps on his neck. He went in to the doctor and the doctor said that it is most likely nothing but wanted to do a blood test just to be safe. The blood test came out all good and his lumps have magically disappear too. In the meantime my mom was totally freaked out over the results of the blood test. She would jump every time the phone would ring for the first week after the blood test.

Just tell your wife and talk it over together if it is bothering you a lot. All the best to you and let us know how things are going.

as long as the nodes are mobile everything should be fine. Have you had a cold recently? Any sort of viral infection will give you some lumps under your chin.

I had some lumps there too and had ultra sounds done as a precaution. It was nothing to worry about, it was just an infection that went away.
I'm surprised your doctor would make you worry like that. Why didnt he just tell you to come back and see him if it doesnt go away in 2 weeks.

I wish we would of. When it comes to my health I alays get worried when something abnormal comes about.

Flus, colds, etc I can handle. But something unknown and new always gets the worry factor up

Dude don't worry about it. It's probably nothing. I had something similar happen to me and the specialist who did the biopsy said this is just routine type of stuff. They remove growths that shouldn't be there and most are not cancer. The worst thing is if you do get a biopsy then you'll have to wait quite a while for results. You probably won't get test results for about a month. Have fun waiting man!

Just to reassure you, I found a few suspicious lumps in a much more worrisome place a few years back. My doctor told me that he "didn't want to alarm me" but it could "very well mean cancer." Waited 2 weeks for the ultrasound, turned out they were benign. Scary stuff, but good news in the end.

It's going to be a freaky few weeks for you, but trust that no matter what happens, things will be okay. Seriously!

EDIT: Oh, and really, don't go googling for "cancer symptoms" or "I think I have cancer" or things like that - you will eventually find a website which describes SOMETHING you've felt at one point in your life, and will quickly convince yourself you're dying. Self-diagnosis is dangerous and dumb. Just avoid it.

man, something similar happened to me and I totally forgot about it.

I had a few suspicious lumps in a specific important area as well. They never thought it was cancer but I had to get an ultra-sound "there". That wasn't fun.

Turns out they were something similar to varicose veins and some of them were bulging. Nothing to worry about though.

So no worries Spidey, I am sure it isn't anything.

Second opinion makes sense, considering your doctor told you to wait two weeks.

Keep positive, benign lumps happen more often than you think. My mom had one on her shoulder.

Glad that you got checked out right away. Many don't go to the doctor because they're afraid of the results (where's the common sense in that?) Early detection is the key.

Those are your lymph nodes working in response to infection. It happened to me last year when I cut open my leg which got infected. A week later after some heavy duty rest and healing I was perfectly fine.

Plus she did explain to me that not one person in my family has ever had it on my dadas side. In fact, no one has died on his side of the family except from either old age or accidents. So that makes me feel better than Ive got 50% of that side of the family genes fighting inside of me

There are so many stupid things going through my head right now.

I guess it was for my wife and family, I was kind of numb to it actually, can't explain it. My initial thoughts were 'why bother with the treatments'...(this is due to the negativity of the doctor telling me the news). His demeanour indicated that it was a hopeless case, (that was the part that really bothered me) he basically told me with a smile on his face and in a 'matter of fact' kind of way that I had terminal lukemia.

I know this may come out as being kind of insensitive..but believe me I'm not, I've had my days in the hospital, had major major surgery back in '99. But try to think positive and prepare yourself for the worst, this is the cards you've been dealt and you have to fight it with the help of your health care team. Work with them, ask questions, give them a chance to work with you. Medical science can really work miracles these days.

Wishing you all the best.

I know it's hard to rationalize feelings but look at it this way: you know one way or another soon. Whatever is meant to happen will happen. Until you know, try not to think about it. Yeah, I know that's easy to say, but its really true.

Don't worry about it. I believe that as long as you lived being a good person, you'll be fine.

I don't mean to come across as jaded or negative here, and this is definitely not meant as a commentary related to Spidey's issue, but I think that you'll be quickly disillusioned if you hold that viewpoint through life, malaco. Bad things do happen to good people. This is of course different from the belief that everything is part of God's great plan, i.e. "everything has a reason", in which you can say that many of those reasons (for when bad things happen to good people) are not understood by humans.

Anyway, I do not want to derail this thread and I'm sorry for going a little off track here. Special apologies to Spidey. I just wanted to offer some advice to malaco (which he can obviously take or leave).

Haha, maybe you're right Kohanz, sometimes bad things to happen to good people and vice versa, life is unfair. Anyhow, i was just hoping to cheer spidey up, and i'm sure hes fine.

Actually, to be honest, i dont really believe in that, i dont even know why i said that, maybe i was side tracked when i typed that. I seen so many people done wrong to me, and other people as well, live as a ***, and still seem to have a good life. Maybe they just cover their bad things, who knoes. Theres always 2 sides of things, depends on how you look at it. But thanks for your comment. Yes, maybe sometimes bad things happen to good people, but sometimes good things do happen to them, just how you view it, and also depending on the stage of life you're in.

Anyway, good luck spidey!

Well some good news. The lumps have gone down dramitcally. I also talked to my mother-in-law who has had cancer and she told me some info as well.

So Im pretty happy about this. I have made anotehr appointment though with my wifes doctor just as a follow up in a few weeks. Im leaving my old doctor. The last while I havent been happy with him. Each year around my birthday I go in for a physical and he doesnt even take blood. He just gives me a general look over and says, "you look pretty healthy, no need for bloodwork"

Although the last couple weeks ive had an odd pain in my leg in the hip flexor area. Not a "ive hurt it running" pain, but a general pressure, you feel soemthing there pain
