View Full Version : Weirdos on Craigslist...?

Just thought I'd share an interesting story I heard...

(By intention, the details are left vague, to preserve some anonymity.)

I know someone who responded to one of the postings in the 'Free' section of Craigslist. A pickup date/time/location were set by e-mail, so everything seemed normal...

Upon arrival, there was something odd: extremely loud music was playing at the residence. My friend knocked (no doorbell), but no response. The music was really loud, so maybe nobody could hear... So, my friend opens the first glass door, and knocks again - nothing. The primary door was unlocked, so my friend peers into the hall and goes in. A few steps in, apparently a wall mirror thingy could be seen - it reflected directly into an adjacent room. In the reflection, a guy was seen pleasuring himself... Needless to say my friend ran out of there.

When I first heard the story, I was a bit disturbed as well. Now we're trying to figure out: was this an embarassing mistake and a matter of bad timing, or was this a setup of some sicko? (There are some details - unposted - that make the whole scenario seem 'fishy', though it doesn't all make sense).

Anyone have any similar experiences? (especially with anonymous listings like Craigslist?).

Uh, you calling the situation a prank, or are you saying my post is a false story???

If the latter: I didn't make this stuff up. Look at my thread history - I don't post crazy stories for attention...

Why would anyone meet at a house to begin with?

uh...yea, everything about the story seems bs, why would anyone meet at someones house? thats already odd enough, and then invite themselves in? and they don't even know the person? i don't even do that at some of my friends house its kinda rude, and secondly how conveniently is the mirror placed to reflect directly into the room and have the guy in the reflection...the stars must have lined up for this to happen

plus you said you heard the story so maybe the person who told you lied or maybe they have second, third, or fourth+ hand information

Well, firstly I routinely do deals at people's homes. These are usually buy/sell deals, but in any case, I don't think it's unusual at all. (I've also met many RFDers at their homes when buying stuff).

Why walk-in? Apparently there was no answer at the door for a long while. I was told the music was really loud, so perhaps my friend thought the house resident just couldn't hear. (In the immediate preceeding e-mail, they were told that there would be someone at the house to give them the items - so it was assumed that it was known they'd be arriving).

The mirror is what bugs my friend. It seemed too "convenient" to have it situated like that. Add the fact there was really loud music and an unlocked door (and presumably an expectation that someone was coming) and it all doesn't make sense...

Lastly, the story was told to me directly by the person involved, and there is no reason for lying (they were also visibly shaken/tramautaized/angry/etc.).

I have also been to people's houses for buy/sell deals - not too strange in my opinion. I once purchased a lot of fabric from an old man. My boyfriend and I ended up spending a few hours chatting with him and teaching him how to use his scanner. His wife passed away and he needed some companionship.

craiglist is notorious for the most bizzare/disturbing/scariest ad or deal types. atleast it is for me everytime someone mentions it or post a link to it in a forum.

in ebay there's a lot of scammer, but less wackos because it requires a membership via credit card, while craigslist being free would certainly raise the possibility of running intoa wacko.

Pleasuring oneself to VERY LOUD music alone? That has got to damper the imagination, how does he do it?

If there's more than one person pleasuring themselves, especially if opposite sex, then why don't they just pleasure each other...

It seems that the corresponding Craigslist posting is still up, and I'm tempted to anonymously respond myself and figure out what the heck is going on...

My friend obviously didn't pick it up, so it may still be available. Neither of us care for the item anymore (and to be honest, I wouldn't want to touch it now ), but I wonder what I should do. One part of me wants to investigate...

meeting at people's houses happens.

I posted a few free things on Freecycle and the person wanting the items asked to meet at my house. I politely declined as I don't want people to come to my house but the person responded asking if I could drop the items off at her house.

It was an older lady, lived in my area and it was on my way home from work. So I dropped off the items.

But yeah, this story is pretty sickening regardless. That is why I don't use craigslist.....too many weirdos...

Why would anyone meet at a house to begin with?

If I'm giving away FREE STUFF (old microwave, computer, etc), I sure as hell won't waste gas meeting up at a convenient location for anybody. If you want it FREE, it's your responsibility to come get it.

Where does it say there were two people pleasuring themselves? Or that even 'an' opposite sex was there? Read to me like two guys went there and one guy was pleasuring himself.

Then leave it outside. There is no way anyone should be walking into a strangers house.

Did everyone forget the stranger danger rules?

My friend actually called me right after the incident (after running like hell back to the car), and was quite upset.

The items were never picked up. However, the contact person sent another e-mail afterwards to my friend saying something like 'guess you didn't come get it - you still want it?'. Not sure what my friend said in reply.

At this point, it's not sure if the (e-mail) contact person was the same person seen at the home (doesn't seem like it). I was shown the e-mails and thought the name signed at the bottom was that of a lady (but it's one of those genderless names, so it's hard to tell. I won't specify, but think 'Pat', 'Sam', etc.). The e-mails said to come to X address at X time, and "there will be someone there to give you" the items. Perhaps the guy didn't realize someone was dropping by?... I dunno...

In any case, I don't know what to think of the situation. It's so weird and creepy! Apparently, the 'exhibitionist' was an adult male, and he was fully disrobed, and arched over a couch (or something like that...?), and ahem, doing his 'thing' to loud music in the living room. That's all I know - and frankly all I want to know!!!

Why would anyone meet at a house to begin with?

Someone desperate enough to forego common sense for a little hanky panky.

It sounds like you or your friend were blinded by some easy poontang and instead got a rude awakening. Some one got off that day, but it wasn't you.

for sure

countless buying/selling on craigs

its a great place..the VAST majority of ppl are 'normal'..you get the scammers here and there.just dont' send any EMT's and be wary of prices too good to be true..

bought/sold- comics/dvds/computer stuff/vid games etc.

craigs is good and so is kijiji (more user friendly..looks nicer .but takes longer to load)

Your friend is lucky, maybe this guy was pleasuring himself waiting for your friend!

Hey, almost the same thing happened to me. Except it was this stunning girl stretched out on a sofa pleasuring herself. And when she saw me, she asked if I was there for the "free stuff". Before I had a chance to answer my damn alarm went off....

But seriously, I have bought and sold tons of stuff on Craigslist and had good experiences in almost all cases (although not as good as in my dreams).
