Hey guys, was wondering if anyone could give me any ideas about these e-test results?
It's a 91 dodge spirit...

ASM2525
HC ppm limit 64, reading 196
CO% limit 0.35, rwading 8.41
NO ppm limit 727, reading 269

curb idle
HC limit 200, reading 328
CO% limit 1.00, reading 9.89

DOes anyone have any ideas as to what could have caused such high readings?
This car passed with flying colours a year ago.

would it be the catalytic converter? something has to be really wrong for the readings to be that high, I.d imagine.

before the catalytic converter
HC is unburnt fuel
CO is combustion with lack of oxygen
NO is an indication of combustion temperature

Any check engine light? Does the engine miss?

Most likely not worth fixing anyways. If it passed a year ago I would suspect more on the ignition side. The cat degrade gradually. Same deal for O2 sensor.

CT has a liquid in a can for $9.99 (as I recall) that guarantees that you will pass an e-test. At least I would try it and go to a different testing station where you drive in without appointment and make sure your engine is hot. Maybe the test equipment was not having a good day.

Really? I thought about trying that stuff but I figured since the results were extremely high, that stuff would only work for cars that failed by small amounts.

Do you think it might work?

Dragonzealot, can I ask why you say it probably wouldn't be worth fixing?

The engine light is not on and the engine seems to be running without problems.

I wonder what caused it to go wrong so quickly, the results from last year were practically perfect

No, your readings are terrible. Either the machine was miscalibrated (Unlikely) or something is wrong with your car.

Go read the fine print on that stuff. "Guarantee" is just a name. They don't guarantee at all.

This is a 16 year old car, right? How much you think the book value of the car? It does not look like it shoudl be more than $500. There is not a lot of repair you can do for $500.

If there is ignition problem like misses the HC and CO will skyrocket because of unburnt fuel.

Thanks guys,

I don't know if I should bother getting it diagnosed, but I guess for $100 i might as well find out if its something small and easily fixable

If not I'll just go trade it in...
