Disclose any material modifications to your insurance company, otherwise if you file a claim and they find out, they'll probably say "DENIED".

what if it's just aesthetic modifications...it's hard to believe you need to tell your insurance company everytime you add any parts to your car...

My husband modified a hardtop into a convertible, which didn't exist for the model of car (Monte Carlo). He had an appraisal done by a professional appraiser , we haven't had any problems with the insurance on it with HB Group / Direct Protect.

What about all those +10hp stickers? You know, the Mugen, TRD and Nismo ones? ;)

Seriously though, what kinda mods do you have?

In the case of body mods, it's unlikely they will deny a claim, but don't expect them to reimburse you any extra to cover these parts. If it's performance mods, and the claims adjuster notices them, they can very easily have your claim denied. Insurance companies love to find reasons to deny claims like this, as it saves them money, and you have no recourse, because you didn't follow the rules.

If it's a specialty vehicle that is not your daily driver, I'd consider special modified/historical vehicles insurance like that offered by LantCo (Google it).

I was planning to do some performance mods, probably add a turbo and replace the suspension. I have a feeling many insurance companies would dislike this.

Insurance will probably don't like the TURBO....
but suspension/intake/exhaust/brakes should be fine...
but addin' FI/NOS/expensive Wheels (vulks).....definitely not insurance friendly

Adding turbo and changing suspension will cost you big bucks, from insurance

If it's a stock turbo they should be able to figure that out from the VIN. Your insurance will reflect the engine you have.

My stock TURBO was claimed to be $250 per year more
than a V6 Mazda6......i maybe wrong, but AWD/4WD cars
can be slightly cheaper than same car w/ FWD/RWD...

so wat i'm tryin' to say is, i may had to pay more than $250 for
the stock turbo initially, but 4WD might brought me down to $250....

correct me if i'm wrong...

By your flawed logic, the MS6 should cost the same to insure as a V6 FWD 6.

Insurance companies decide the rate based upon the number and cost of claims.

Thx for the clarification, i j/ found out, it's not $500 more than V6, it's
$250 more....i dunno where i got the 500 number....
but then again,
remember, MS6 is tuned comparing to V6....suspension/engine/wheels/brakes etc... IMO $250/year more than V6 is pretty reasonable..

Yea, it is. The MS6 is a much better car then the V6. But I would rather go for the MS3 (even being crappy fwd) then the 6.
