What are your opinions on the best way to sell my car in the GTA?
If I'm using Autotrader, what are some tips on dealing with enquiries and meeting with potential buyers? (i.e. how to stay safe and maintain privacy)
Thanks in advance.

Try the Buy and Sell Newspaper:
www.buysellzone.com
www.craigslist.org will work too

2000 Celica - the wholesale is around $7500 and the average selling prices are about $10,000 depending on mileage/condition/etc...
I really don't want to discount it much since it's in such great condition.

I used autotrader to sell my first car. Does it really matter if they know where you live? I didn't care, I just met up with people and took em for test drives. Sold the car with the second person.

I sold my car in less than a week using FREE online ads:
craiglist, buysell.com and livedeal.ca
I got exactly what I wanted.
IMHO With the Internet, Auto trader is an antiquated way of selling. The buyer and seller pay. Wierd stuff. That makes no sense.

I sold my 2nd car on VWVortex.com if thats any help. Free services if you can find the right buyer work pretty well too.
In fact the guy that bought my stage 4 saab bought it sight unseen, didn't even want an inspection.

i'd also say Autotrader, but if you want, put it up on forums, either here or car forums
http://www.gtcars.ca/online/ is a good place to start, it generally focuses on those in the Toronto Area and a wide range of vehicles
check out Toyota car forums

AutoTrader is the best by far, but with one big rule. PRICE IT RIGHT! The average listings prices you see are cars that aren't being sold at that price. The car is worth more in your eyes than it is for buyers. I wasn't able to sell my Mustang 2 years ago for the $11,000 I thought it was worth because it had lower km that the rest of them going for the same price. I was able to sell it last summer for $9,500 after only three people came to see the car. Just keep these things in mind. Each year you have the car, the less it's worth when you try and sell it.

Without doubt, Autotrader hits the largest market for people who are seriously looking to purchase a car.
In your case, I think its worth spending the $50 fee for a $10,000 transaction.
However, if you don't want to spend, you can try free classified sites like Kijiji and Craigslist. You can also post free classifieds for Toyota enthusiasts at sites like toyotanation.com.
If you're not in a rush to sell, why not place a couple of free ads. You've got nothing to lose.
In terms of setting your price, www.autotrader.ca is a wonderful tool for buyers and sellers alike. The search function is great to determine what a good selling/purchase price for a vehicle is.
Since you're selling your car privately, I would advise not selling your car from your home from a personal safety perspective.
I had a bad experience with some young punks a couple of years back when they came to my house to look at a car I had for sale. They tried to lowball me big time. I kindly turned down their offer several times, but each time they got more aggressive.
A few minutes after they left, they called me at home and made some rude remarks.
I was so pissed at them, but at the same time, I was worried, because I had a young infant at home. You never know what some people would do.
Fortunately/unfortunately, they never made any threats, so I didn't call the cops on them.
If someone responds to your ad, and you don't have a comfortable vibe with them, ask them to meet you in a public place for your mutual comfort and security.
Good luck.

RFD BST - zero response
Craigslist - zero response
Trader.ca - a dozen calls, two viewings, and one sale
Trader still gives you the best exposure for a quick sale, but if you are in no hurry, post it online for free everywhere you can.

I've listed my old cars on all of the free local forums and the trader. I did get responses from all sites, but in all cases (four now) the buyer has contacted me through AutoTrader. I have found that most people prefer to make initial contact via e-mail, so I can't stress enough how important it is to include your e-mail address in your AutoTrader ad.

I had a good response from a combination of Craigslist, Kajiji, and a couple of enthusiast sites, but I priced it a little low. RFD only resulted in two laughable lowball offers.

Do I let people test drive with or without me onboard?
How much in-person dickering occurs?

Never let anyone take your car out without you in it! You always go with them.
Haggling will depend on the person, I've had people pay my asking price without another word, and I've had hard-core hagglers try to work me over for several days, you never know what you'll get. I can often tell what type of person it is by their initial phone call. The savvy ones ask all the right, tough questions, and they always ask how fleixble you are on price. They are trying to feel me out to see if it's worth coming to see. When I'm selling, I usually give answers that will make these people go away, I know what I'm in for if they decide they want the car, and I know I won't get a good price for it.
Of course, when I'm buying, I'm one of these people myself! I know how to sniff out the gems and get the deals, after years of used car buying experience.

It makes me nervous having someone I know even drive my car.
The guy who bought my car had two accidents in two years. From his test drive, I don't expect my old car to last long in his hands.
