Hello,
I'm looking to get rid of my 92 acura vigor. this car was recently given to me but making it roadworthy and transferring ownership will cost like triple the value of the car.
The car does run and has a lot of parts that work fine. It also has two month old tires.
What do you think is the most I could get at a junk yard for this?
Or selling it as a parts car, though that might be more complicated and I'd just rather be rid of it
Thanks in advance for any info

Don't know if the engine is horizontal or vertical. It is 2.5 litre GS if that tells you anything. Outside colour is dark purple but it looks black. Inside is tan/cream colour leather

The value of your vehicle will be donated to the charity of your choice.
That means, they will donate $20 and sell the parts for $500!

Do you think car heaven is a good way to do this? Does anyone have experiences with them?

Or does anyone know about how much I could get for it as a trade in at a dealership?
The car still runs fine just has too many problems to make it legally roadworthy

I used them and no problem at all. They picked up when they said they would and within a reasonable amount of time. I also got my tax receipt as promised, no complaints here.

Thanks Raptorfan,
Do you remember how long it took after you sent in the registration for them to get the car? On the website it says two weeks but on the phone they told me its more like a couple of days. Was that the case for you?

What's exactly wrong with the car?

Here's a list of some of the problems:
O2 sensor needs to be replaced
Oil leaked into exhaust system/whole bunch of problems with a part associated with the exhaust. wires deteriorating etc.
huge crack in the winshield (i.e. window must be replaced for safety)
rear breaks are shot
spark plugs need replaced
A whole bunch of little things that were pointed out to me but I can't remember the names of the parts.
The car does run fine but needs a huge amount of repairs to bring it to safety and e-test standards. I can't do any of the repairs myself, so labour time in my case also factors into the cost. It's more time and money than I'm willing to spend, as I was looking not looking for a project car.
Are you interested in buying a project/parts car?

I like the Car heaven program. It's too bad the $1000 coupon off a new car can only be applied to GM products.

Depending on the "little things" then it doesn't sound like that much is wrong with it. However some of those things listed point to what could be much bigger problems.
Also I'd point out that I'd never consider a car with a failed 02 sensor and oil leaking into the exhaust system "running fine" either, however.
First off the malfunctioning 02 was probably caused by the oil leak (or perhaps even another combustion problem). Not only might other parts of the exhaust system need replacing the cat is defnitely done for as well.
But thinking again to the oil leaking-into-exhaust problem that sounds like a rather severe engine problem. Not so severe as to cause the engine not to run but severe in a "how it should be running" sense. If oil is leaking that heavily into the exhaust, it's not even getting burned in combustion which would either indicate very worn piston rings or carbonisation. Rings worn that badly would certainly require an engine rebuild, which despite not being on your list, is a costly enterprise. Oil could be getting in there otherwise however but you didnt' mention if whoever looked at the car noted why the oil was going into the exhaust.
Fixing the consequences of the problem (damaged exhaust, 02, wiring, etc.) does not stop it from causing them again--you need to know why the oil is going into the exhaust and stop that from occuring.
Simply put the car is not running fine at all if you ask me. You make it sound like it's just legal/emissions "hassles" that are preventing you from just driving the car around, however it's seems it's quite a bit worse than that. It's not just a bad/non-working cat, it's a host of problems.
Anyway thinking of selling it for parts or whatever, why not try to sell it for like $200-$500 "as-is" first? Hit up local Honda/Acura/Vigor forums see if anyone is interested. Failing that the $100 someone else mentioned may be your best bet.

hey,
It wasn't my intention to misrepresent the condition of the car. By "running fine" I just meant that the car rund, and will get you from A to B withought severe trouble (for the time being that is).
The car is in very bad shape, I was trying to just give a summary of some of the issues, and really its my limited knowledge of cars that's keeping me from describing the full extent of the problems.
Anyway I'm just going to give it to car heaven. It seems like the easiest and wuickest way. When this car was given to me we thought it was just the o2 sensor and winshield and everything else was in great shape.
Like I said in another thread it was a gift so I can't complain, I'll just chalk it up to a learning experience.
But thank you to anyone who took the time to answer my questions and give me advice :)
