RCSS (at Metrotown) has 6ft HDMI cables for $14.88, manufactured by a knock off company called C2, the cables come packaged very nicely similar to the picture above. Not like the ones at XS Cargo which came packaged in what looked like a plastic sandwich bag!
There were lots couple weeks ago when they restocked, only a few left last week.
By the way RCSS were selling these same cables for $9.88 during Boxing Week, I was lucky to grab the last one left at that time.

Newbie question: Is there a huge difference btwn these cheap cables and the very priey ones at BB/FS, or is it like buying a USB cable, where they're pretty much all the same? Thanks.

Pretty much the same - you're paying for build quality + marketing costs. But most low end cables are built quite well ... in fact I wouldn't be surprised if they came from the same factories with different labels!
And if there is a difference, I'll challenge you to see the difference (none as far as I can tell).

Hugh Jack: completely agree. The $9.88 HDMI cables purchased from RCSS over the holiday season have worked just fine. No need to spend more than $20-30 for such a cable. Many audio visual forums will also say the same.

Thanks for the advice. I googled a bit since I asked the question and it seems to be the same answer across the board. Maybe I can use the high $$$ monster cables to get a better deal on a HDTV then return the cable :)

I would suggest checking out http://www.monoprice.com
They have some HDMI cables for 3-5 dollars US. Pretty decent prices.

cable quality and shielding come become more important with longer lengths
though if you have an enviroment that is very noisy (electric motors/generators and transformers and such around) a better shielded cable may help reject interference
