View Full Version : Z-5500 @ Fs $260 (PM BB)

The z5500 are 279 at BB. I'm sure everyone saw it. But are there any good pricematching opportunities using this?? StOOples doesn't even show them online!! Too bad cuz using their coupons + 110% pm one would save at least $35, hence $245+taxes. Futureshop has them at $515, so a 110%pm would be something like 515-280=235*10%=~$20 SO 260. This is IF they don't give you the good old 'BB and FS are the same company' crap.

and perhaps stooples disco'd carrying them, hence not on their website anymore.... i think they used to have it for ~$350...?
$260 is warm at best.
Dell days (not the one that just past) had'em for as low as $250.
too bad they didn't put 'em on sale again for the past Dell days....

Was exploring the TigerDirect store last time... (Not that i bought anything, just curious since i accidentally came upon their store while shopping for camera parts) They had these speakers on and playing music.
Words cannot express... *drools*
:cheesygri Would pounce on them if i could somehow guarantee not getting slaughtered by my mum.

we'll just have to hope for another Dell DOTD for this....

After read a few good reviews, now my question is: Is this a good substitute of HTIB? 'coz I've been looking for a $400-600 HTIB. Thanks in advance.
It will have fewer inputs and no radio, but these will easily compete with HTIB at that price range. I have them, and they're worth twice the price.

You have a suggestion ? I love good sounding speakers and don'T really like those plastic Logitech. I would get Klipsch, but they are out of production and wouldn't like to risk getting one without warranty.
I don't seem to find something interesting in the Creative or Altec lineup.. No need of 500W speakers, but I want something that sound really good (and not just make boomboom like logitech)

Hahaha... Yes I'm cheap :p But in other hand, it's an ageing logitech product that have been $249 - $299 for years now..
Anyway, $229 free ship, only one tax would be good too :p

I was in the market for a new setup for my PC sound. I currently have the Logitech Z-560 4.1 and have been very very happy.
I currently have an Audigy X-Gamer sound card which all my audio needs with the exception of inputs. So I was considering getting the X-FI Elite and a these Logitech Z-5500 speakers but it would cost about $600 taxes in, which I don't want to spend because I've recently (last 5 or 6 weeks) spent almost $3000 on electronics, not to mention a new LCD TV and Laptop just before Christmas. $600 is too much for PC audio right now, there is only so much I can sneak past the girlfriend.
So then I looked at this Sony HT in a box, http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10072347&catid=
http://www.futureshop.ca/multimedia/products/large/10072347.jpg
It has got some pretty good reviews and it sounded really good from my brief encounter at Futureshop. This will meet my needs for inputs and give me the 5.1 that I would like to have. Do you guys think this is a good alternative to these Logitechs?
I also like that it has HDMI video switching meaning that I can connect two devices to my Dell 2407FPW monitor using the DVI connection with HDMI-to-DVI cables.
SO?

even the recurring sale price at FS/BB have been ~$300, but that's AR....
so i wouldn't place your hopes too high expecting it to be a lot <$250 anytime soon...

How long you had the Z-560s for? Man, now that you mentioned it, I'm anxious to replace mine as well. I purchased mine in 2001 and I can't believe it has lasted for 6 years. Out of all of my PC components, the Z-560s are the oldest.

Yep, Creative sound cards are pretty bad when it comes to that. My X-FI XtremeMusic requires an adapter to get coaxial out, but then I lose my microphone since digital out and microphone are shared. I ended up using just the analog out (3 channel) to source input into my 5.1 set up.

I had the Z-680 just sold them for $230 with speaker stands. I must say they were great speakers. They were practically on par with my friends $2000 set up...his words not mine. The one thing about getting these is that they have attached speaker wires, so upgrading the gauge may be difficult.
What I would really love to get is Z-5450 thoses are nice with wireless back speakers and 2 optical inputs. Just not nearly as powerfull as these.

I bought mine in 2001 (Fall) so I've had them for about 5.5 years. It is also one of my oldest component too. I still use the Audigy X-Gamer and my Lian-Li PC-67 case that I bought at the same time, everything else is newer (expect the Floppy drive, that is about 10 years old now, lol)

The Z-5500's are the best speakers you can buy for the money..period
Though there not as musical as the Klipsh due to lack of midrange, they destroy them on games and boom boom music.
I ordered these speakers from Dell..
Paid $262 taxes in..
I had a coupon from Dell from a bungled order...
I will be replacing my Z-560's very nice speakers..
Excellent condition still..
Oh they are the oldest component in my computer system as well...purchased june/02 I think..

Then I guess your friend is an idiot for buying the wrong speakers. At that price range I can get some nice speakers that will beat the Z680.

Agreed, my speakers in my HT are about 6 years old now and I originally paid $1500ish before taxes for the speakers, without a receiver and they destroy the Logitech Z-5500 or any other PC speaker I've heard.

I tried to price match at FS, thought I might be able to get them for $256.50 (plus tx) b/c regular price is $514.99. Sales manager agreed to match BB price of $279.99, but would not give me the extra 10% b/c he said it was an "online only" price at BB...
The one thing about getting these is that they have attached speaker wires, so upgrading the gauge may be difficult.
Only the first couple of batches had the attached speaker wires. The recent version has standard speaker wire attachments (tension) at both speaker at sub ends. Just saw for myself 2 days ago at FS. The z-680 sats had the best attachments (screw-in).. but not big deal there.

shouldn't matter if the sale is "instore-only" or "online-only"...
BTW, i'm surprised they didn't say sth along the lines of "oh, we're owned by the same company, so in that case we can only 100% PM, not 110% price beat"...
