Going to be re-tiling a few rooms in our house that all lead into each other, with different dimensions of course, so wondering if a border is still a good idea? the first room is our entranceway 86" wide x120" which blends into a narrow hallway 40" wide x 160" (more or less, because it diverts into anotherside hallway as well as the kitchen...all of which we will be tiling, although not necessarily with a border).
Is this too complicated of a scenario to use a border?
the entrance and hallway look something like this.

I could keep going down the hallway, but there not much point. The hallway goes into the kitchen after that, which I'm less oncerned of, just because of thecabinets, appliances etc. There are no doors that would facilitate using a threshold tile.
My original plan was to use 16" tiles with a 3" border in the entranceway, but that would mean that to have even times in the hallway, I'd have to use a 4" border, which sounds like it may look weird.
Or should I go to using a 12" tile with no border? Diagonal is not an option (I hate the look of it), would consider a brick layout. And ideally we'd like some sort of square medallion typ thing in the center of the entranceway.
Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks.
Oh damn, the ascii type drawing I did, didnt turn out after I hit submit. I'll take a pic or something instead.
