note to everybody, only buy flash drives if you need them. i know that sounds really obvious but prices are dropping so fast, in 6 months you could probably get a 8gb for that price.

how many of you have like 5+ usb drives at home?

FYI, the speed of this model DTI/4GBCR is very slow. Big storage does not make much sense for slow read/write speed.

Agree. According to FS, it's rated 1.5MB/s (write) only. For 1GB or lower, it may be ok. For a 4GB drive, it does take a looooooonnnng while to fill this thing up.

For a few bucks more, you can have this screamer rated 17MB/s write ... http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=011372&cid=990.420

So I personally think this deal is warm at best ...

Good advice. I only have a 256mb drive, but it suits my needs. In terms of micro/mini/SD cards, I maybe have half a dozen ranging in size from 256mb to 2gb.

Stay away from OCZ drives unless you don't care if your drive dies with your data on it. I've had 2 fail on me now. You get what you pay for with OCZ.

I find OCZ drives to be questionable. I've used 2 generations of their ram and had one of their mod stream PSU and they have been really good. Only one set of ram fried on me but RMA'd in less than a week.

FYI, the Rally 2 for some reason does not always work as a ready boost device in Vista. Only about 30% of the people report them working and some saying those made after Nov. 2006 but mine didn't and it was made after that date. Funny thing is my old 1GB Kingston Datatraveller worked and was rated similar to this one on sale, almost half the rated speed of the Rally, LOL

Yeah, many of us have too many flash drives. There's always deal to get them next to nothing after mail in rebates. The 1gb and lower are easy to find for cheap. I found some 2gb kingston data travellers for 22 bucks a few weeks back and bought them for our school.

I need to find some 1gb flash drives for friends. I was going to get the OCZ ones from NCIX, but after reading the preceeding posts, I will reevaluate. Anyone know of some good deals out there for quality 1gb flash drives?

If you buy (I did last week from CC) the OCZ rally 2 make sure it is readyboost compatible: On the front of the package it says "supports readyboost" on the upper left side.

ALso since the OCZ gives lefetime warranty, I read ppl on the ocz forum complained and arranged for RMA for a rally2 which is readyboost enabled.

If you guys really want a fast USB drive try the Verbatim Store 'n' Go PRO. You won't regret it. Might be pricey but damn worth it.

and according to the DD, i believe his tests w/ various USB flash drives suggest that the speed of Verbatim's store'n go PRO drives are comparable to OCZ's dual channel flash drives !

that's right, you read, correctly,... the Dolph did tests on USB flash drives,... not just blank media

I read some horror stories about people who lost their vacation pictures after their SD cards died. I would stay away from OCZ.

Yeah i bought a OCZ dual channel for my computer, had to rma it because of random failure.

After that i bought a 2gig SD card who die on me after taking some good picture, another RMA, and they return the card 2 weeks after that, but it was not new, i was able to recover some old picture they took of themselve (the employee!)

Also, i have pretty bad experience with their Mail-in-Rebate pretty hard to get! have to fight them over email each time, for me, no more OCZ!

I have 2 OCZ (one 512mb and one 1gb) for 2 years now and they are very reliable.

I also got all 3 of my OCZ MIR.. a bit slow, but got them all.

As for other memory, I have ordered many set of OCZ DDR and DDR2 (reselling PC) and never had a single problem beside 1 incompatible MB (I got a RMA cross-shipped in 24 hours from OCZ). That's with over 50 set of memory.
Same with OCZ Power supply, very good quality.

I know there is some problem with the SD cards, but beside that, their product and services are very good.

If you miss the FS deal, I saw a 1GB USB Drives @ Wal-Mart for $14.97.
