Can anyone give me a general idea of what it's worth selling on forums?

The bst forum here has mostly people selling the NFR Intel version, or some OEM version.

I've got a full retail version that goes for $499+ tax and I'm wondering if it's worth selling on here.

The problem with the full retail version is that the upgrade retail version is just as good. All you need to do is install Vista without entering a key and then re-install over it with the upgrade key. Microsoft knows about this and they don't really care as the majority of their revenue comes from the Microsoft tax imposed on all new PC's that have Vista pre-installed by the OEM.

On the other hand, I can't really see many people even paying close to $499 for Vista. I'm not really sure what Microsoft were thinking when they priced Vista, but if it weren't for the PC tax then they would take a quarterly beating repeatedly.

Just somewhat of a side note, the NFR copies you're seeing fall under the Retail style license agreement and also if they were those obtained thru the Intel Retail Edge program there are 2 separate keys for the 64 bit and 32 bit versions. IMHO the NFR copies are worth more than the full Vista Retail (which only comes with 1 license key for both 32 and 64 bit editions).

$499?? That's bloody insane!

People should start using Linux. It's now just as simple as Windows.

How can the NFR copies be worth more when they're Not For Resale?

I dual boot Ubuntu with Beryl (eye candy sweeter than Vista) and Windows. But let's not kid ourselves, Windows is still the OS for everyday use. I prefer Vista Paradox myself.

Because you get 2 seperate license keys for x86 and x64. The NFR bit has nothing to do with it, in the end it's still the exact same OS.

So in the event someone were to violate the EULA and 'resell' the copy, then it would be more valuable then some other guy selling a retail packaged version.

I get what you're saying, but legally you can't sell NFR software so its value is $0. Do people do it? Of course, because it's too good of a deal to pass up.

This works with all versions of vista? Have you actually tried this? I heard about it, but thought it was dismissed as a rumor.

The procedure works with all upgrade versions and it's been confirmed repeatedly on the Internet.
