well, I decided to paint my 1994 mx-6, wich was getting a bit rusty around the sunroof and a few other little dents and chips....so I painted it at the shop I work at, it took 1.5 days from when the car rolled in till it rolled out....actual work houre were 8 from start to finish, I did the body work very fast as I was doing on my own time after work, materials were $300. well came out really nice, I am just in the hunt for a set of rims....would like 18" rx-8 rims or a set of 17" with larger tires so I dont have to lower the car, looks silly witl lp tires and not lowered....anyway enjoy all!

Thats really nice, don't know if the pictures are hiding the quality (it's easy to tell if its a super job with black) but it looks deep and rich. Very shiny too. Did you wetsand the car yet? Or was it just straight up paint, clear?
Hey you think you can hook me up with a spray like that? I'd imagine you can spray it for me, and I can take care of the prep. My Civic is in need of a black repaint. :cheesygri I'm serious about this down the line soon.
What kind of paint process did you utilize?

like I said....this was a fast job...that was a very fast sand with 400. Yeah I do stuff on the side but you have to supply the spray booth as I can do it at the shop I work at...I have all the tools.

I have a bit of rust on my Integra to deal with. I don't need a complete paint job just a repair and paint in the notorius space between the bumper and wheel well that always seems to rust on Honda/Acuras. So if there is some kind of deal in the works, I would like to get in on it too.

HAHA notice how the OP avoids giving out his shop location. He doesn't want his shop getting swarmed with low ballers w/ crappy prep work.
Paint jobs aren't cheap...it's time consuming and takes experience to prep a car properly for paint. Painters hate someone elses prep work because majority of the time, they have to correct it for them.

Car looks good..
I dont want to knock you or anything so dont take it that way, im responding to the people that are saying they want you to paint their car for cheap.
-Theres no upclose pictures of the car.. there could be water marks, missed spots, blemishes, etc...
-the quality of the paint is probably low compaired to what you would get if you paid for a good paint job.
-the long run may not be so good, as for paint chips, etc...
-As well, he didnt have to pay for labor, so that eliminated a big cost.
In general, you get what you pay for...
He was painting his car for himself for cheap, hes not going to want to paint your cars like that, he wont make any real money..
Good work dude, looks good.

Donkey boy is there anyone that you can recommend to do body work, basically to fix the the wheel well rust on my integra. The rust is in the space between the bumper and the body
I had it repaired about 2 years ago at Maaco, but the rust is all back again. I knew eventually it would come back but I didn't think it would be back so fast it started back up about a year ago, and needs to be fixed again.

I'll weigh my options. My dad wants to give painting my car a shot, so maybe we'll do it ourselves...Get a HVLP spray gun, materials and work away. We know already how to do body work, so painting shouldn't be too hard.
I agree paint quality is only as good as prepwork...:!:

Apr 5th, 2007, 09:36 PM
Geez there are so many shops out there!!!! depending whats in there the best thing is put in a metal patch....and when you fix a rust bucket, I am a firm beliver in rust check....we use it at the shop, but we have done some real **** B8xes and they just wanted them to look pretty (cheap job) so lots of fiber glass and plastic.......and some of these cars are still really looking good after 5-6 years

probably more then you would want to spend.....just for paint alone for a nice job can be $2000+ .....but like I said....I am just the painter....I dont give estimates, you really have to see the car too. So I cant really say...again not my shop.....my boss does all the wheeling and dealing.

$2000 isn't a bad price, I'd consider it. I've seen a lot higher. $2000 is an average price. But I'd have to see examples of cars you have done, etc.
Good thing I will be doing body work, those guys getting paid doing body work usually dont care because it is not their car. They just want to get the job done quickly.
