should also consider the possibility of moving traffic damaging the car. This is especially true if its on the road with a bus route. Some1 I know had his side mirrors damaged. Should also consider the road condition as well, if its bumpy and has alot of debris, flying rocks can chip the exterior.
Just my two-cent.

How long can I park on the street if there are no signs posted?
In the City of Toronto, a three-hour limit exists on public roads where no other parking regulations are posted. Signs advising visitors to the city of this regulation are posted at the access points to the city and when exiting from a Provincial highway.
The three-hour limit is enforced by calling the Toronto Police Service, Parking Enforcement Unit at 416-808-6600. This regulation is only enforced upon request.

sounds like it's a bylaw for snow clearing during the winter months...i don't live anywhere near north york, but seems plausible...if you've parked there before with no problems, should be fine.

This law is actually implemented in pretty much every city, large or small.
I can see there a legit reasons for invoking this law, but it seems mostly used by cranky old ladies who live on desolate suburban streets and get a thrill from ruining people's day.
I lived with a friend in a townhouse for a while that only had 1 parking space + garage. Each time we were too lazy to park in the garage overnight, their would almost always being parking tickete in the morning. This is on a wide suburban street in Kanata.

Anyone can complain and have you car ticketed.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner. When you get a ticket parking on the street, its most likely that one of your neighbour complained to parking enforcement office.

It's never safe to park on the streets. Accidents pwnz3d you. Even if they don't hit and run it's still a hassle to deal with. I would park on the driveway.

I do that all the time in past winters. Mofos park on the street and then it snows like ass. the plows come and they get blocked in. eventually they climb out but then the snow bank is there. so the following night they park OUTSIDE of the snow bank... plows come and block them in again.
eventually, a "four lane" wide road (really just two lanes plus parking) becomes one lane wide for two way traffic. fack that.
i called parking authority like several times a night with different voices and names. By midnight they were there with 5 tow trucks in a massive tow op.
Go me.

yeah I'm in the same area and I used to get tickets too. The town of Markham makes nightly runs through the streets and hands out tickets. I see them sometimes driving down my street at ~3am

Parking Limits
14. Except as otherwise indicated by a sign or otherwise provided for in this Bylaw, a person shall not park a vehicle on a street for more than 36 hours.
http://www.saskatoon.ca/org/clerks_office/bylaws/7200.asp
Or The time limit for parking a car on a street is 72 hours. Refer to Traffic Safety Act, after 72 hours the vehicle can be considered abandoned.

i know in markham, they are TOUGH on those who park on the side after 2 pm. i see the parking enforcement VAN driving by all the time. i have yet to see it in toronto. and yes, u get a ticket when someone complains about your car on the side. how else would the officers know you've been there for more than 3 hours? its not like they would take down your car at a certain time and come back at exactly 3 hours later to see if you are still there. (they might do that but unlikely or rare to see that), think about it, they would do all that to give out a measly 20 dollar parking ticket?

Markham By-Law officers in their Ford Escape are ***holes.
You will get nailed, guaranteed, if you park from 2:30 to 6:00 on the streets.
They have no mercy. You can not park on the roads. You can not expand your driveway.

not only cant you expand you driveway, if you park your car on the bottom portion of your driveway and your tire sticks out JUST A LITTLE, you get a ticket lol, doesnt matter how long the back of your car is, as long as your tire is on the road, its over! lol so, that means you could have your tires fully on your driveway but your trunk sticks 2 metres out onto the street, its okay lol

My security guard took the toronto police parking ticket training course where he can give official parking tickets and he told me how they check the 3 hour limit. They either mark a small chalk on your tire or place something on on of your tires (small rock or whatever) and if its still there when they come back they give you a ticket. So if you see chalk on your tire you should probably move it.

I know someone who's car was parked in front of their house. An SUV smashed into their Corolla. It was a writeoff. The lady in SUV was not drunk, just bent over to pickup something on the floor while moving. Stupid, could have killed a pedestrian in a residential area in front of the school. It was a 40kph zone. I say she was speeding, but Corolla's aren't that strong from the backend. Come to think of it, I don't think a lot of cars are strong enough in the back. Rigidity is mostly in the front and sides.
