View Full Version : Bluetooth......how DANGEROUS is it?

I'm not very fmailiar at all with bluetooth and am wondering how dangerous it really is. After reading some of the stuff below, I'm not sure about purchasing a Bluetooth Mouse/Keyboard combo...especially since I will be exposed to them for an extended period of time. Also, they will BOTH be closer to my "midsection" than I would like.

Here's what I found:

The maximum frequency for wireless products compliant with the Bluetooth specification is 2.497 GHz. AegisGuard™ Phone Radiation Shields include the only shielding technology currently available that deflects radiation emitted by Bluetooth compliant products.

http://www.swedetrack.com/images/bluet05.htm

So, I;m wondering if people have any input about the possible dangers of bluetooth, especially for a KB/Mouse combo.

It's a radio frequency. Radio waves are not going to fry your nuts.

You are nuts. I dont see people dropping dead every day from RF noise.

+1

Frequency produced by a laptop processor or cell phone in your pants is more deadly.

I'd imagine you'd be concerned if it was a bluetooth headset, but keyboard+mouse? No way.

You're telling me, I had a friend move into a house near some high voltage transmission lines.

The following week he got crabs!

Ahaha, I was just looking for information to be sure that it is not dangerous...let's say I place the KB on my lap at a short distance withing the KBs range. In that sutuation, it would be close to the groin and heart, plyus I had read that bluetooth is in the microwave range and there's the usual microwave argument:

"Don't stand in front of a microwave when it is heating something."

Well, the KB would be right up close and personal with VITAL organs,:( which is why I was asking.

lol funniest thread ever.

I'm sorry if it's come off as funny..it certainly wasn't meant as a waste of time. I had some serious (for me atleast) concerns about it and didn't want the risk of health issues, so (AFTER some googling) decided to post the thread.

Also, what about connectivity issues? Does anyone have experience with the connection, specifically for a KB/Mouse combo, going dead for a few seconds...lag?

If bluetooth was dangerous, im sure the us army would find a way to kill all the iraqui insergents who use their al-jabrah wireless bluetooth headsets.

if Bluetooth was dangerous.... I'm pretty sure the FCC would have never approved any of the products for sale

Anywhere we go, we are constantly exposed to all kinds of radiation - EM, radio waves, etc.

A Bluetooth device nearby is merely a drop in the ocean compared to the total amount of radiation we're exposed to right now.

If you want to be safe, make yourself a "cup" for down there out of tin-foil and also a tin-foil hat. :cheesygri

What about second-hand exposure to Bluetooth waves. Is that dangerous, too?

Bluetooth devices are one thing - high voltage lines are another.
I wouldn't want to be near high voltage lines personally.

You shouldn't worry, I have tons of wireless stuff in my room and I've only had testicular cancer 3 times, its real easy to fix, they just remove a nut.

If you eat enough lead for it to coat all of your arteries, you will never have to worry about radiation from bluetooth or RF again (but that would be the least of your problems :P)

That typing position wouldn't be too ergonomic, unless it's for a HTPC, which you won't be typing extensively anyways.

My tip for you, type on a desk, not on your lap. Same with notebooks, use it on a desk, not on your lap.

Think about it this way. Do you have a cellphone? If so, it outputs more harmful radiation just sitting on your desk than the bluetooth headset right against your head.

Well actually, you should be careful of it if anyone around you has a pacemaker installed...its wave form has shown to affect it... as does Wi Fi.

Otherwise, you are fine.. no need in being paranoid.

Ionizing radiation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ionizing_radiation) are the real dangerous ones as they cause DNA damage for certain.

The problem with power lines is that the EM wave is almost constant if you are not moving around too much within its field such as when you are sleeping in a home near it. Coming across it once in a while is no big deal, living near it is something else ...

TV / radio brocasting / cell / coounication tower are no fun either ... watch the radiation pattern and keep a safe distance when they are operational

here is an older post (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1429035&postcount=16)

may be it is a good idea to include Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) measurement with bluetooth devices

assuming you are a normal healthy person, cutting yourself after cleaning with a clean knife most likely won't kill you but would you do it for nothing?
