cdmccool: has also confirmed there's an impostor itmypostoffice (missing the "S") and linking my actual heatware.

kschaffner was vigilant & informed me that an impostor created an Anandtech account using my User Name and Heatware. we are contacting Anandtech MODs to investigate this situation.

please remember that i always request & verify your contact info before finalizing a transaction. furthermore, i always provide my phone number when i first PM you. lastly...i NEVER accept Paypal for RFD trades

too many scammers are taking advantage of our goodwill. please stay vigilant and help your fellow member by reporting scams to RFD MODs. don't forget to research Heatware feedback and verify your seller/buyer's contact info using Mapquest & Canada411.

remember: if your transaction was legitimate and helpful then please record your feedback to vouch for your "repeat" seller/buyers. we still have a close-knit group of veteran sellers so don't hesitate to PM us if you require a second opinion.

thank you to these following Anandtech members & MODs & RFD members for watching my back:

----------------------------------------------------------------

itmypostoffice: calling himself Tom Watson
scam: purchasing from U.S. Anandtech members and requesting "Ship First"
fraud: using my heat & creating "itmypostoffice" accounts on Gmail for correspondence & payment

a warning has been posted on Anandtech & RFD, ID theft (abuse) has been reported to Gmail. we've been monitoring his activities throughout the week *nod*
----------------------------------------------------------------

verify your seller/buyer's ID:

1. heatware offers 2 levels of security: contact the email your trader used to activate his Heatware. don't forget to PM his heatware INBOX. it's very rare for both accounts to be compromised (Tom Watson was not successful in taking over either account)

2. RFD account: RFD offers identical safeguards since implementing our new FeedBack feature.

3. always ask your seller/buyer to provide contact info when finalizing your transaction - verify through Mapquest/Canada411 and then phone him/her...inspect your purchase and agree on sales terms (ie. i'll refund your money if item is DOA within 3-7 days). at the very least, reputable sellers will help you RMA a defective item.

4. trade safe in a public location and always inform a friend/family your whereabouts. i also like to BUMP their BST thread to remind them we're meeting up...this also serves as a public record of our meeting.

don't let GREED impair your good judgment
