I personally love "Lick's". Their burgers are huge and taste like real meat.
For other types of sandwiches, mostly Italian style, I would say California Sandwiches at Queensway and 427 (right next to Lick's actually). I've just found about it recently, but the sandwiches are huge and it tastes amazing. Not too expensive either.

+1 No contest here folks. For all those that don't agree, it's because you haven't tried them. It's at Victoria Park & Sheppard in Scarborough.

I have tried all of the above and nothing even comes close to the best burger (not really a burger joint) which is Ki (yes the Sushi restaurant at BCE place). I challenge any one to go there and dispute it. I have brought 6 people there and there wasn't even a debate.

Cheers.

Anyone who says Johnny's obviously hasn't tried a whole lot of burgers in their life.

Johnny's uses plain frozen patties and buns you can buy in any supermarket and they're always undercooked. Their only redeeming feature are the fried onions, but are you really going to eat a sh*t burger just because the place also has fried onions?

Johnnys.

Yeah they use frozen burger patties and they use the best ones. A homeburger doesn't mean it's better a than frozen one. They're still better than Licks, Hero's and South Street.

Wimpys would be 2nd on my list.

Johnny's burgers are nothing special.
People who think they've got the best burger in Toronto obviously have no idea what they're talking about. I'll agree that they're a classic Scarborough burger joint, but that doesn't make them anywhere close to the best.

If you want a way better burger, try Fat Phil's on Marlee, Allen's on the Danforth, or Utopia on College (these guys are hit and miss). Those are three of the best in Toronto, hands down.

I can only speak for the West End.

Apache Burger is living on past glory. It's burgers are now very ordinary. Fries suck too.

Lick's is okay but I cannot stand the forced mirth. The singing and yelling drives me nuts.

I like Magoo's in the plaza on Dundas at Royal York. It has the Bruno's in it. Great patties and fresh condiments.

The burger itself is only one part, others are the price and the feel you get while ordering that burger. Also let me point out that some like the simple greasy burger (without lettuce ;)) while some like the more upscale ones with the upscale topics...so it depends on ur taste...

Apache kinda sucks now. C&Dubbs on Dundas a few blocks east of Dixie in Mississauga is good. They have these massive Sumo and Super Sumo burgers.
If your near the airport theres Zets Diner on Airport Road near the flight training center.

jayboogie
Mar 28th, 2007, 04:38 PM
Zet's is the best imo as well. It doesn't get much hype on here, since it's down by the airport, but the place gets absolutely packed come lunch time when everyone working around the area go there for lunch.

Johnny's is not too bad, the buns they use absolutely suck though, often times they have a lot of flour stuck on them, which makes it nasty. Still, it's hardly close to being the best burger around in Toronto.

Apache burgers are disgusting. The taste of a burger is all in the way you prepare it. The best base burger meat is the President Choice ones you can get 8 for $10. They're so good as-is or with a little ketchup or mayo/mustard. I use the Diana's Sauce... oh so good.

I read that McDonald's is coming out with a 1/3 pound hamburger in the States.
Hopefully they'll leave out the special sauce and the excessive amount of mayonnaise and put a tomatoes, pickles and onions on it. :)

Everytime I go to Rotten Ronnies, they always smother my hamburger (Big Extra) with tons of mayonnaise, even when I tell them to go light on it.

Burger Shoppe on Queen and Broadview (near Jillys the strip joint)

New place I think, the burgers there taste absolutely divine, to all the burger lovers out there give it a shot. You won't be disappointed, they use fresh ingrediants and no chemical/frozen crap. Like cmon, the lettuce was CRISPY not wet and soggy. To me that was the first time I've tasted a moist patty not those dried ones from Mcdonalds or other crappy diners. The staff are nice too, nice comfy atmosphere not a fast paced one.

A tad expensive for just a burger but the combos are worth it, they have fresh cut fries :DDDD

Burger Palace. Finch and Wardern. It is located inside the mall where there are zellars and price chopper.

Previous thread a lot of people mentioned this place. I've been in that mall umpteen times (wife works in that mall) but never had their burgers. Well, I had one, and to say the least, I was disappointed. Not because it was bad, but the hype made it like it would be the best burger I've ever tasted, and it wasn't.

Yes, it was nice that the texas burger used Canadian Back Bacon, but so what, that didn't make the burger magically the best. I'd rather have burgers from lots of other places, like Groucho's, Hero's and Burger Shack to name a few. Heck I even like the Kelsey's Peppercorn burger better than this one. I don't recommend this for anyone as the best burger at all.

To be fair...it's all in the eye of the beholder. I don't know if any burger is necessarily the 'best'. There are just ones that I do enjoy more than others.

Fair enough, but I still wouldn't say it was one of the better burgers I have had. I would just say that it was average, better than say McDonald's but just average and not worth going to get. Nothing special, and I'd get it if I had a hankering for a hamburger and was already there, but I wouldn't specifically drive there, where I would with other places.

Hero burgers are undercooked, overpriced, and greasy.

The best Hamburger in Toronto belongs to Wimpy's Diner.

A huge 10 oz charboiled on the best bun that I have tasted, let's face it it's the bun that makes the burger and this is the best I have tasted yet!

Try it folks with their fries or Onion Rings, many locations in the GTA. I frequent the Bathurst/Sheppard location.

You won't be dissapointed.

Try it folks with their fries or Onion Rings, many locations in the GTA. I frequent the Bathurst/Sheppard location.

You won't be dissapointed.

eh, its not bad but its not the best by far...too much filler, not enough meat!

I don't mind a little filler in my burgur as it adds a little flavour. Perhaps it is a personal preference, I like a Harvey's pattie over say a Mcdonald's or Wendy's beef pattie.

How about Dangerous Dan's at Queen & Broadview? Not that I could ever try and finish the Quandruple C (colossal colon clogger combo). A 24 oz burger servered with a quarter pound of cheese, quarter pound of bacon and 2 fried eggs. The combo also comes with a large shake and a small poutine.

I didn't go for the 'Quadruple C', but I did get the 'Coronary Burger', which is the next step lower (first photo). My brother ordered the 'Bull's Balls Burger' (second photo) :D. Does Dangerous Dan's have the best tasting burgers? Perhaps, but debatable... Satisfying portions? Absolutely!!! :cheesygri

looking at this picture doesn't make me hungry, actually.

in fact, i'm a little queasy with the thought of that much ground meat. weird. if that was a hunk of prime rib or steak, no prob, but that much hamburger doesn't do it for me. . .

Here is the link to Wimpy's Diner. Really the picture on the site doesn't do the burger justice.

This thread is one of the saddest things I've read.

I grew up in Toronto and I am a proud Canadian, but living in New York for the past two years has made me very depressed about the culinary options in Toronto.

Manhattan has about 1.5 million people, and Toronto (not even GTA) has 2.5. Yet none of the burger places mentioned here (I have been to all of them, and they are all very good in Toronto standard, in all honesty) would even make the top 15 list in Manhattan for a burger. I am dead serious.

It's a little sad. And it makes me dread moving back to Toronto, which I plan to do soon...

We're health-conscious they're not.
Healthier food doesn't taste as good. =(

it doesnt look that bad..
its actually brown throughout which is quite a feat in itself for a burger that thick!

manhattan is a densely populated 1.5 million..
Torontos 2.5 million is spread out over a very wide geological area.
25,846/km² compared to 3,972/km²...

What are the best toppings for Hero? There are so many to choose from, and many of them sound exotic...
