I've only been there once or twice..

It's not bad, but, the stuff you can do yourself in the summer time is way better.

Also, my little brother found a somewhat long but skinny chicken bone in the shredded chicken sandwich, and he doesnt want to go back

I like the place, it's okay, better than a Montana's or Applebees, it's true BBQ, mind you I could recreate most of the stuff at home, but sometimes, you don't have the time or desire, and that's where Phil's comes into play.

The guy himself is pretty nice, he was on Restaurant Makeover a few months ago.

I had high expectations for this place after watching them on Restaurant Makeover. Found the ribs way too dry for my liking. Don't think my companions were impressed either.

just tried this place last night ..... WOW is the word ... i absolutely loved their ribs .... u know the food is good when there is a line of people willing to wait !
We had the meat platter ... comes with ribs, brisket, chicken....
i will def go back but just for the ribs this time ... i really liked them, not burnt, not too salty, not too sweet, very tender, just fell off the bone... just good round smoky flavour...
the brisket was really great too but i would still get the ribs
and the chicken ... welllll i personally didnt find anything fantastic about it, even though everyone in line kept asking the waitress if there was any chicken left... not too impressed with the coleslaw myself ...but other people seemed to like it....but the RIBS...a winner for sure :P

Been to it at least twice but, while it's good, I can't seem to remember much of the experience. >:(

If you can catch them on a day when stuff is actually coming off the grill, it is amazing BBQ ...

Unfortunately, there are just as many days when they are warming up yesterdays BBQ inthe oven ... HUGE difference that destroys the food

I find the place is really hit and miss. When it is good, it is the best in the city, when it is bad, it is worse than anything you will make yourself

I agree 100%....if it's fresh off the grill vs reheated in an oven it's gotta be good. When I saw Restaurant Makeover I was surprised that the grill/smoker he has is no bigger than a regular grill. How can he possibly cook for a restaurant like that.

They were on Restaurant Makeover and Food Jammers. Worth going to get a taste of the south there?

I've always wanted to try out Phil's Original BBQ. My curiosity was piqued even more after Restaurant Makeover.

I finally had a chance to go there recently.

I had the BBQ Combo which consisted of ribs, brisket and roast chicken.

First of all, I wasn't impressed with the makeover. It really didn't look that great in there. I guess TV is deceiving.

I've heard horror stories about long waits and rude service, but this wasn't the case for me.

I went on a weeknight. While it was busy, it wasn't crazy busy.

The wait staff were nice and I swear, my food was ready in like five minutes.

The ribs were very good. Fall-off-the-bone tender with a nice smoky flavour.

The brisket was also very tender and tasty. I'm glad I just had a smaller portion, because I don't think I could have eaten a full portion, considering all of the fat on the brisket.

The chicken had a nice texture on the skin, but my breast meat was dry!!

Prices were okay on the food.

The beer is reasonably priced and the pop is cheap for $1.

saw this on TV too, but I like Korean BBQ better. Maybe I'm biased because I am Korean. :)

I saw the program on TV.I went with a friend and I was very disapointed .The show bragged at how big the portions were .I though they were very small for the price.I was not impressed .

With the makeover, they changed names from DiPamos, right? Is it the same owners/management?

Another publicity stunt...what about the dishes that David Aggi or whatever his face is. Are they on the menu?

The original College Street location used to be called DiPamos. The owner Phil then got some partners and opened up a second location on Eglinton.

Eventually, there was a split, and the partners kept the restaurant on Eglinton and the name DiPamos for themselves.

Therefore, Phil renamed the College Street location - Phil's Original BBQ.

DiPamos on Eglinton went out of business.

BBQ...Ribs....and Drama!! Who could ask for anything more?!

No, there were no David Aggi dishes on the menu. According to the owner, they will be adding these items, "once they find a good supplier."
