Well, I had lunch there yesterday. I amazed how fast the food comes. Nanking (beef with brocolli on a bed of noodles) - steaming hot - from ordering to getting it on my tray: 22 seconds.

The longest any customer had to wait for a custom dish was about 2 minutes (and that is from start to finish cooking in the wok or whatever).

I was looking at my nanking noodles - and it's quite good, but I'm thinking, "can anything that is put together in 22 seconds be good for you?" Yet it was not microwaved and not deep fried (maybe the noodles were, but I don't know). The brocolli is already cooked (and is fresh brocolli, not the frozen kind) and the meat and sauce sit simmering, while the noodles - they probably are already cooked too.

Any thoughts on the Noodle Delight chain? They've been open for 20+ years, so they must be doing something right. The cost is more than a typical Chinese food court, but the speed of service and delivery is quite good. The clientele varies and it seems to be quite popular to young and old, blue or white collar, individuals or groups, every nationality, etc.

Ah yes, the Nanking. Thursday's special noodle combo with soup and springroll. I used to have that every week when I was working close by to the Victoria Park location. That or the black bean chicken on rice.

You are correct that everything is pre-made in large batches and assembled right after you order. This is true for all the daily specials but since they sell quickly the food does not sit around long. Only if you come very late after the lunch rush will there be a chance of you getting something that has been sitting a while. Just order something other than the daily special and it will be made fresh.

Noodle Delight is not the best, nor the cheapest, but they are very consistent in the quality of food you get. Also their spring rolls are the best I have found anywhere. Not like the small and crappy eggrolls you get from other places but instead a nice, large deep-fried morsel that makes a satisfying crunch when you bite it. Just thinking about it makes me want one right now. I think I'll stop by later and get something.

I didn't have the Thursday special, but normally, the Nanking comes pretty fast, anyway. I think it's probably one of their more popular dishes. I think if the brocolli gets a bit cold, they just dunk it back in the boiling water for a few seconds. The beef stays in the sauce and the noodles can be kept out forever.

I agree about their spring rolls. Nice and fat and packed with stuff. It doesn't taste like it was from frozen into a deep fryer.

I love their spring rolls too, but can be a tad greasy.

I've been going to the one on Finch since I was a kid. I always get the Bangkok, it's the best item on their menu. I tried the curry chicken, it was okay, but I think they just microwave the curry and give you some rice. The other things I've tried weren't good.

When I used to work at Atria, a bunch of us would walk over for lunch at the Vic Park and Sheppard location and have lunch.

It was hot, fast, fresh and greasy. But it also was tasty and filling. I remember how I wanted to sleep at my desk after lunch. It was sure filling.

I wish they had a location in Oakville. I'd be there every other day.
