One of the best things to happen in Japanese Sci-Fi! My favorite right now is still Kamen Rider Kabuto. I've yet to see anything outside the Third Generation (2000) stuff.

I'm sure there are quite a few of us who's heard of or have even seen one of major television series under the Kamen Rider franchise. Of course there was 'Masked Rider' (American adaption based off of Kamen Rider Black RX) and eventually we'll have Kamen Rider: The First (2003 movie re-make of the 70's original) on DVD by the end of April. Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight (so-called American adaption of Kamen Rider Ryuki) should be appearing next year.

Kabuto was definitely one of the better Kamen Rider series although the way it ended left more to be desired.
It had a lot of potential but didn't really live up to it. Still one of my favorites though :cheesygri

I am suprised to see Kamen Rider discussion here at RFD! I was definitely wrong to assume that I am the only rider fan in TO...

I have a bad feeling that Dragon riders will go the same route as the North American Masked Rider series (remake of kamen rider RX). Seeing how they screwed my favourite RX back in the days, I have no confident that anyone in North America will do this series justice in the process of transforming it into a North American friendly TV show. It will be yet another forgettable show that kids won't enjoy. I really hope I am wrong. At least there will be toys made for it to look forward to...

If you want to check out anything outside the 2000 territory, I recommend Kamen Rider Black and Kamen Rider Black RX. It has great action but the storyline will not be as defined as the new shows.

As for the first genetion riders, I do not seriously think anyone of this generation would enjoy them since they are too "out-dated" and the fight scenes are too cheesy looking. Unless you grew up watching them of course (an old folk like me).

Black seems to one everyone talks a lot about. I'll have to look into it. I know there are a few fansubs floating around...

In terms of the VERY first. I've seen bits and pieces in clips. Incredibly corny and horrid music but I wouldn't mind seeing more.
TWO reasons I enjoyed Kabuto a lot was seeing Kick Hopper and Punch Hopper. What better way to show retribution to the original heroes than to make them depressing, anti-hero characters with gothic/punk wardrobes!
