Anybody know any good places in downtown Toronto where the food is good and cheap. I've been to some places that offer pretty good deals. I would also like to knoow where I could get some Shwarma for a good price.
Roasted Chicken Leg - $1.50
St Andrews TTC Station
I was wandering around Union Station in the underground path and came to a deli that sold roasted chicken legs for $1.25. A couple of months later, the price rose to $1.50, but the price is still right.
European Meatshop, Hot dog - $1.75
Kensington Market - Dundas and Spadina
Nothing like walking the streets of dirty chinatown. The meat shop has sawdust on the floor and a deli bar across from the meat counter. When I was young, the price for a hotdog was like a 1.00. Now its like 1.75, must be a new owner. Still good compared to regular hotdog stands(I think people from hotdog stands buy their sausages here).
Pizza Stands- $3.00/2 slices
In front of UofT - Spadina and Harbord
Went to visit a friend, met this place. 2 pizza stands, I like the one with the Celebrity named pizza.

You can get a full-size sausage at one of the three stands at Queen/Spadina for $1.50. Street meat!

I believe the one with the celebrity named pizzas is Papa Ceo's

there are 2 pizza stands: Papa Ceos and Coreys (spelt differently i though, cant remember the real spelling).
Papa Ceos is not $3 for 2 slices, but the pizza is good.

The chip wagon outside City Hall has a sausage/fries combo for $5 or $5.50. The fries are fresh cut and the serving size is huge. Not healthy but tasty!

not to hype up my school, but if you're looking for pastries, the cafeteria at george brown college sells them for a decent price...they're the ones the students make, and they're different each week....

The vietnamese buns cost like 1-1.75 dollars each and are the size of a foot long sub. Shops are usually found on Spadina.
Another place is the pizza stand below the entrance of the skywalk(that leads to the skydome) The pizzas there use to be 2.00 for like 1 slice the size of 2 pizza pizza slices. Now its 3.00 that comes with a mandatory 1.00 pop can.
On Entertainment, there was a place a pool hall on Dundas(Close to Ryerson U, Next to Sam the Record Man) that offers a table for 10$ for the full day on a Sunday. Great deal, since its a weekend and you dun have to pay an hourly rate.

wait, where are these viet buns that everyone keeps talking about?
and i think cora's is so much better than papa ceo (the two pizza places at spadina+harbord) it's like getting a quarter of an XL pizza for $3 or $4 depending on what kind you get

The viet subs that I've seen are only about 6", not footlong, for $1.50 in downtown TO chinatown - there are a couple of shops along Spadina on the west side and north of Dundas.

I've seen Schawarma being sold for $4.00 at stores, but I could probably sniff out a better deal.

Somewhere on Queen St. I believe it's close to Queen stn, there are hot dog stands that sells hotdogs for $1. Some of the hotdog vendors are so competitive that when I asked how much their veggie dogs costed. It was $2.00. I was about to approach the other hot dog vendor to purchase a veggie dog for $1.50. The vendor was like come back! I'll sell you a veggie dog for $1.00!!!
Sweet!

I would be careful when purchasing Viet Subs. After seeing flies landing on the buns in the viet sub places in Chinatown gives me the shivers.

I remember a news article about them making 100 000 if they have a good spot per year and 40-60k if they have a lesser spot. Thats pretty good for 8 months of working.
All non taxed too!

the guy that used to work the hot dog stand outside ryerson lives in public housing...
so i dunno. Unless they are doing some hard core tax evasion.
does that take into account expenses? I imagine a permit for one of those stands is at least 1000

You mean Ernie? He lived in public housing?
I kinda find that hard to believe considering he was a successful businessman (i think it was business, it was some field he was successful in) before his Hot-dog vending days.
As I recall he donated 23,000$ to Ryerson to help with some production of something.

I don't know if you have any Taco Bells downtown but if you do my favorite which is hard to beat is the 1/2lbs Beef + Potatoe (other flavours too) burrito for $1.90 tax already in.
Thats just sick :) One and I'm full already. :D :D

In Nova Scotia and probably other maritimes provinces, there are donair shops and they're like a schwarma. Weighed like a puond and it really filled your stomach. You can see donair shops in trailer park boys, which is kind of funny!
