don't know how to poll but would like to know how many people chose to learn the sex of the baby or wanted to be surprised?

I would like to be surprised.

We did both, surprise for first one, found out for second. Surprise is okay for some, we did it because my wife is a hopeless romantic. I'm a details guy, and a very rigourous planner of everything and anything, I hate surprises. I also didn't like having to paint the nursery the ever-genderless yellow, as well as buy all the clothes in same.

I asked with all three (these days not all labs tell you!) so we were prepared...yes I am a control freak planner! lol

With #2 however, they were wrong at all 4 ultrasounds!! We were totally expecting a BOY, and even the ob/gyn was shocked when it was a girl!

OMG I was so siked to go to the ultrasound that day to find out the sex of the baby.....appointment was at 6pm....I picked my wife up at about 5 pm and the first thing I asked her was if she had been drinking water.....ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHH she forgot! She immediately started to drink water but too late. We got there explained she hadn't really drank water like she was supposed to....they did the ultrasound but no go they couldn't tell....we had to wait another week for an appointment and then got the good news, It's a girl! Damn that was a long week to wait! :D

Got told at the first ultrasound :) Luckily no surprises

(i've been told stories where they were expecting boy the whole time and a girl popped out!)

You will be just as surprised when the doctor tells you what it is, why not get a few extra months to plan ahead? People always say that to me, didn't you want to be surprised? Well I was still surprised when I was told but this way I didn't end up with a ton of green and yellow clothing.

We had to know. We were all ready for find out at the 18 week ultra sound, but they refused to tell us. We had to wait another month until my wifes next doctors appointment.

Everything we bought is still in yellows and greens though because we want to be able to use it for our next kid instead of buying everything from scratch.

We found out.
They couldn't tell with the first ultrasound so we did the 3D ultrasound.

I agree. We found out right away. We don't want all green and yellow either. Personally I think not finding out is analogous to opening your christmas presents in April.

I've never understood the whole "surprise" angle.

"Surprise, you have no time to plan for anything! It's too late to redecorate, go shopping, or fall in love with a particular name! Woohoo!"

(Obviously, we found out for both)

similar thing happened to me...i haven't had children yet, but when i was in my mother's womb, they first told her she was having twins (she fainted), and then that i was going to be a boy, and then when i popped out everyone was surprised that i was a girl.
although that was 21 years ago...so hopefully ultrasounds have improved their accuracy by now!

The hospital here won't tell you the gender. I didn't really mind with my first two pregnancies not knowing until I delivered.
But with the twins, it would have been nice to know as it was our third pregnancy and after having two boys, we didn't have any girl things. At least they let us know it was twins...LOL

You can still do that and not know the gender. We had 3 kids and didnt ask to know for each.

We had a boy and girl named picked out for each.

As for decorating the kid doesnt care, and by the time they do you are repainting or moving houses anyways. We painted the in between colours, tried purple for one room. Everything turned out fine

Shopping, what shopping. Most of the needed things are good for both giirls and boys, minus of course pink sleepers and the like. And if you have friends with kids you get so many clothes from them your set

I think not knowing was fun. I guess right for all 3, my wife guessed wrong for all 3.

The 3rd she thought for sure was a girl. But nope, a boy

I wondering how accurate the information from an ultrasound is. I know it isn't 100%, especially if they say it's a girl. There are stories of parents painting rooms pink to only find out later that they got a baby boy at birth.

We were told that we're having a girl, but we went with mostly gender neutral colours anyways since we're planning on more than 1 child.

I didn't want to know either, its like the biggest surprise you can ever have, why ruin that.

You can tell you have kids because you have it right. Little kids don't care whats on the walls, and they are going to grow so fast and get dirty so quickly you'll be happy to put them in any clean clothes that fit regardless of color. ( unless your out shopping with a girl with no hair, pink clothes are good unless you want to keep saying.... no .. its a girl)

I knew intuitively but did not want to find out, there are so few good surprises that happen :) I was right for both. We picked out a name for each sex to have ready and personally I prefer yellows & greens so it wasn't an issue. As for decorating, my first we were in an apartment so I left the walls white and decorated with peel off Disney stickers and my 2nd whom I thought was a girl, we painted her room a sky blue which would work for both. I accessorized with the crib bedding and lamps etc and it looked great. My daughter wore my son's hand me downs, jeans & sweaters etc that were neutral and my best friend gave me her girl clothes.

I knew the sexes for all 3:cheesygri I couldn't resist when they asked me at the ultrasound (but not all places tell you) First was a boy & then when we were having twins, that was a no brainer...we had to know if we would get a girl in there or maybe two...but turned out to be one of each ;) & since with twins they make you go to many ultrasounds, I always had to confirm if nothing had changed ...just in case :)

ultrasounds are bad for babies, just like having too many x-rays. >:(

We did not find out the sex with either pregnancy however I had a video of my first and a dvd of my second and I had my aunt tell me I was having a daughter with child #1 and she was right and a good family friend told us we were having a son with child #2 and he was right as well. So I really didnt know for sure but they were right

We decided to go on the surprise route too. And we really were surprised. :D All signs were pointing towards a boy but we ended up with a girl and we couldn't be happier. My wife wanted a girl first. :D

We knew what we were having. I had an amniocentesis done...so there was pretty much no doubt that it was a girl.;)

When we were told it was a girl the woman told us she has never been wrong...I thought that was kind of grandiose but she was right....I mentioned this to our midwife and she said the tech was very good....

they said my nose changed shape (got bigger) and that my stomach was sharp instead of round ...or something like that

ha..no one ever guessed i would have a girl

and they were right~ i had a big baby boy..who couldn't come out the natural way..(they told me after 30+hrs of labour he couldn't come out...c-section then)

I agree with the surprise thats for sure.

Our girl was bald along time, so we had to sometimes scotchtape a bow to her head for pictures because she had no hair :cheesygri

Now she blond with blue eyes. Definity can see the Swedish heritage in her. God help me in 9 years when she starts dating

For the first go around, leave it as a surprise. After that, it doesn't make a difference.

Because of baby being small (he's fine now) we had 7 chances (Ultrasounds) to find out the gender and declined each one --all our friends thought we were crazy!

We just like surprises. There are so few in life these days. Everything was still planned (we had 2 names, bought some cheap 2nd had clothes for each gender...etc).

It was great hearing, "It's a boy!"

But to each their own.
