I wonder...if I were to call you a racist P.O.S. who can neither type properly, form a coherent sentance, or comment on an aspect of your day without coming off like a complete bigot, would I be sanctioned by the mods?

Let's find out.

Speaking of which, what exactly do you have against "Asians" (any specific type?) and African Americans (Canadians, perhaps?)?

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! I've been to that Swiss Chalet, I am of Asian background, and they sit me wherever there is room. I don't really care, since I'm happy I'm no longer waiting. If they sit me by Asians or Caucasians or Black folks or Indians or whoever else - do I really care? I am there to eat, not play the cuisine demographics game. I think nothing of it.

Richmond Hill has a large Asian population, so could it have been a larger party eating together? Or a big family or a church youth group? Do you think any franchised establishment would distinctly discriminate against anyone? Most Swiss Chalets I've been to in the Toronto area have many visible minority folks as staff. It is more than likely just a coincidence.

I am so sick of people crying foul and playing the race card at every opportunity. You are only perpetuating exclusivist and segregationalist perceptions, and I, for one, as a proud Canadian, will not stand for it. You're reading too much into something to try to perpetuate your own stereotypes.

First do you know for a fact they were seated there by force. It is very possible there was no room or even they asked to be seated back there.BEfore calling it discrimnation do some research. What would you say if at a asian resturant they placed 6 white people at the back.

Could not have said that ANY better!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks...

I have some real-life experience being discriminated against, being one of 3 Asian kids in a very predominantly Caucasian elementary school (the other two Asians were my brother and sister in student population of about 800). I was called names, threatened with death, called the most hurtful things...you know what? I got over it, and didn't let that define who I was. I was not scared off to go congregate with an ethnic clique in a different part of town. I did not hide out in my house or spend all my days in the school library. I simply continued to go to school, be nice to everyone I met, and eventually, you know what? People said, "hey, he's the same as everyone else." That's how you break down stereotypes and racial barriers - by giving people the benefit of the doubt and not jumping to conclusions or reading into everything. I install that into my 4-year-old son now.

Remember, Toronto is a pretty multicultural city. Had you gone to, say Vider, Texas, and eaten at a dining establishment there - there may be more viability to what you're saying.

Also, the dinner may not have come for you because they did not understand what you were trying to order, if your post content is any indication of how you communicate in real life. It took me a few reads to understand what you are trying to say here. Out of respect for the members here, please use proper English and grammar when posting.

This is a troll freeding frenzy hahaha.

I worked at swiss chalet part time for almost 8 years (got me through highschool and college). They just sit people anywhere as long as the waiter/waitress is slammed with consecutive tables.

To be honest, we are in the age where this issue should be completely abolished. I, for one am chinese and spanish mix. This issue has been dragging for so many years. kinda sick of tired listening to people complaining such issues, unless you have legitimate proof that your race is being threaten then do something about it. I was raised in a family where issues of race are considered “questionable”. I had to remove myself about how my parents think about other people. Needless to say, you should be old enough to know that everyone should be treated equally.

Of course, there are people who are racist. Their minds are pretty much fixed and you can’t really change their perceptive of people of other races, especially if they are of older generation (ie my parents) due to the influences of culture and historical/current events.

I had no intentions of offending anyone here on the forum, only wanted to share the dining experience I had with rff. I never really noticed this until I read the thread about the lobster trap, which I never had a problem at. I've been there about 20 times within the past 3 yrs and have been seated everywhere.

Not hating on you or anything but before you are critical of anyone, you should really check your spelling. Last time I checked it was "use" not "us proper english". I think you understood what point the guy was trying to get across, lets not be rude just for the sake of it.

I think the real problem they had with you and your "crew" is that you looked and properly acted the part of a typical punk wannabe. If you dress the part and act the part of a lowlife then that is how you will be treated. Too many people are trying to act hard and tough like they have a chip on their shoulder or they're from the "hood. Just be yourself and I bet you will be treated accordingly.

From the way you created your first thread, it was written like someone who sounded like an uneducated thug. We can only respond from what we assume you represent. I have nothing against you at all but I believe what the case is with many young people today is they try to act hard or gangsta and that flat out doesn't buy anyone's respect. Just be yourself and show some respect and you will get what you give.

Sorry but 90% of the people on this board have seen posts like this 10 million times before... This racism crap is played out & it sounds like you're just being a whiner. We live in a multicultural country, and I seriously doubt there is ANYWHERE in Ontario that isn't used to seating & serving people from EVERY race

if you sense racism from the restaurant staff...
don't return to the restaurant

your food is in their hands (if you know what I am saying)

and don't assume racism is white or black vs asian

racism can be Asian vs Asian (different ethnic groups)

I went to a restaurant
the waiter asked me for my ethnicity
now I realize that he might have a grudge against my ethnicity
some people have grudges

Toronto Star reviewed a restaurant
the restaurant owner was angry and hateful towards a certain ethnic group
who knows what goes on in the kitchen / behind your back...

I am asian also, and I have only felt mistraded once at a higher end restaurant where the place is pretty empty and they put us at the back of the room away from everyone and its beside a washroom. probably because we were younger and think we might be loud? not sure, I dont think much of it.

I think I've had some of the worst chicken from the Yonge/16 swiss chalet. Everytime I go it seems, the chicken is pretty much burnt to the point where the skin fuses to the meat and becomes hard.

you know.. heres the jiffy:

You don't like where you are, ask to be moved. I do it all the time, and the waiter/waitress kindly oblige if they can. of course, if all the other tables are reserved (which did happen once... they had all the reserved signs on the tables and unless they set them out the moment they saw me coming...) or if there simply aren't any other tables, they say that i can wait.

the only sort of discrimination i've had at restaurants are age related. One of my favorite KBBQ places always treated my family well when we went. They were extremely courteous to my parents since we usually have large groups there. But i went the other day with friends (i'm 18, and my friends were around that age, but most ppl there were midage), and the service was horrible, and the attitude was horrible. Don't think the manager recognized me at all, but nonetheless shouldn't have been treated so poorly.

Lets just say the large groups my parents have dinner has never gone there since. I kindly direct them elsewhere =)

But really, Asian this, asian that? gimme a break. I think that the ppl who notice these things are all so much more racist and discriminating than any restaurant is gonna be, since only folks like you would really notice these things.

Cheers

you should try to avoid these chain restaurants because I think that you can find better food

if you feel that there is restaurant or seating discrimination
I believe you
I have a feeling that it does happen

try this restaurant:

Restoran Malaysia
815 Major Mackenzie Dr. E. (Bayview)
- small (hidden) plaza / not the big new plaza across the street
Richmond Hill
Tel: 905-508-1432

pics:

the Chinese restaurant across the street is good too

Been there once and all I can say is the food suck and expensive! Next, you will probably wondering how do I judge it....check my nick name and you probably can guess where I am from...LOL...

If you wanna try good Msian food and not expensive, try gourmet garden at brimley/sheppard or another one is in first markham place food court
