The "red sauce" stuff?
Yes, I think the red sauce is inseparable from the chicken ball experience! Actually when I was in high school, this one asian guy was running for students' council president and one of the things in his platform was that he wanted to get chicken balls in the cafeteria.
So one student posed the question, "Are you going to get that red sauce for the chicken balls?" And the guy responded, "Absolutely, I can get it from my cousin, man!"

Absolutely, I prefer dipping mine instead of pouring the sauce over a dish of chicken balls. Besides I don't give a flying crap whether it's not "authentic Chinese" food. That's clearly not the point of this post.

Who gives a crap if its authentic... Authentic doesn't neccessarily mean tasty!!
I personally have no desire towards eating plenty of the 'authentic' dishes one might eat in China
BTW: gotta have it with sweet & sour sauce, or not at all!!!

Its a rip off. Tiny piece of meat surrounded by way too much dough.
The chinese food place I eat at doesnt even sell that stuff.
Check out The Red Chillie in Burlington or Oakville.
http://www.redchillie.ca/main.html
Huge portions with large pieces of meat / veggies / fruit.
Yum !!

Hey this is surprising, it has a menu online with full descriptions!
Not bad! Only if they made the site a bit more professional, while keeping all the good information, it'd be amazing!

I'm not a Chinese person, so I don't feel the need to eat authentic Chinese food.
If I like something, I eat it, simple as that - doesn't matter if it is "authentic".
I like the sweet and sour sauce with chicken balls.
If you get good chicken balls, there is a fair size of chicken in them.

The thread isn't about if chicken balls are authentic or not. Everybody knows it isn't so keep your panties on.
Nowhere in the OP's post did he even use the word "Chinese". He just asked a simple question.

I was responding to another post putting down chicken balls as not "authentic".
Whatever I eat is authentic to me. :)

The guy is just speaking his mind, geeze. You don't need to make a new thread every time you make a new comment now, do you? Maybe you should keep your panties on cuz your chicken balls are showing.
Anyways, chickenballs are pretty good with soysauce. I can't stand sweet and sour.

What about with that pineapple sauce?
I went to some "chinese" restaurant and you had a choice of yellow pineapple sauce, the red sauce or sweet and sour I think...
I actually like north american/asian food, Cathay is the best around here!
I also like "real" asian food, but I really like garlic spare ribs, chicken fried rice and egg rolls..and fried won ton w sweet and sour sauce :)

Chickens don't have balls. Cocks/Roosters on the otherhand, they do.
And I think you're refering to the Chicken balls (fried) that you can normally find in Machu Wok and they have this ORANGe sauce that taste like garbage.
Hot sauce ftw my friend.

Thank you for pointing that out, I was unaware that "chicken balls" was in reference to the delicacy rather than the anatomic reproductive system of chicken.

I'm Chinese. I don't eat them. Not because I feel they aren't authentic.
I eat Chinese food every day. I don't need authenticity.
What angers me is that I feel tricked! I was expecting a piece of chicken with a thin layer of dough. Turns out I was wrong when I first bit into it for the first time. It is more like a BIG piece of dough with a shred of chicken. I call this false advertising! *grumbles* They should have labeled this dish as "dough balls."
and yes, you have to eat them with sauce. without it, it's dry and way too doughy and generally disgusting. (well, to be fair, it's disgusting with the sauce too... I want meat!! Darn it!!)

A lot of times this is true, but some places actually give you a fair size piece of chicken breast meat and don't overdo the batter.
Just have to find the right place or make them yourself.

I'm sure some Chinese people eat things that aren't Chinese or Asian, just like some North Americans eat foreign foods.
I can understand though some of the Chinese (or Asian) posters being perturbed by something that is claimed to be Chinese, yet isn't. :)

yo...chicken ball is amazing. I was first introduced to them in some run-downed chinese buffet place in windsor at age 9 while taking a vacation with those ghetto Chinese "duck" tours. (with MIT? MTI? i forgot).
I'm full blooded asian by the way...but i've never seen these "authentic" chinese food before with so many colourful sauce...i ate 2 plates of chicken balls.
Too bad I can't order it in Pmall.

I am Chinese and I agree with you completely. I don't understand people complaining that it isn't authentic chinese food because that's not relevant with this thread. I only have a problem when people people claim dishes like "Chicken balls" to be chinese food.

I don't like them much for the most part. They usually have very little chicken in them. Most places just fill them with flour and that's all you eat, the sauce was probably just created so you could put it down easier.

Thats too bad. I'm half chinese as well and it comes from first hand experiences of being around chinese that are too chinese and think they are the best...
Just like the Canada Computer folks. You go in ask them a question, and they give you either one worded answers, or they don't try to respond at all.
