if your just starting out playing poker for money, i don't sugest that you play 5/10, expecially at a casino. try finding a lower limit table to start off.
to join the table find the pit boss stand and ask what kind of tables they have, then say put me on the list for 5/10limit or whatever it is. then go to the cage and get the money that you will need, and wait for them to call ur name, when they call ur name ask them what table. sit down and win

I suggest you stand next to the table and just watch for the first 30 minutes.
Then go ahead and join.
There are many unwritten rules that you probably aren't aware of (the rules are pretty much the same for every table, regardless of the game). Although you're not going to get the boot from the casino for breaking one of those rules, you'll have the other players pissed at you. Stand and watch for a while, then go ahead and play.
To play, just sit down in an empty seat. Make sure the seat isn't being held by a chip on the table. It's common for someone to duck out for a hand or two and have the dealer hold their seat. Also, don't touch the chips once they have been played. You will be booted from the table if you do that.
Also, pay close attention to whether you are big blind, small blind or the dealer (although you'll never actually deal the cards). Always know what position you are in or you'll seriously annoy the other players.
Also, know what kind of table you're sitting at. Remember, you're not playing against the house, you're only playing against other players, but the house still needs to get paid. So don't be alarmed if the dealer suddenly rakes in some of your chips. Just know what the cost of the table is and what kind of table it is.

^^ what kind of "unwritten" rules do u mean?
i watch poker on TV quite a bit, does real life differ much from it? (the rules i mean)
i think watching is a good idea too, i have a bit of difficulty determining like.. minimum bet.. etc.

Every casino i've been in has a room director... find them at the podium, they'll assign you a seat or a place in line. You never just sit down.

Most casinos have a list of (some of the) house rules posted on the wall somewhere.
the most common house rules are:
- don't act out of turn
- do not expose your cards to anyone until showdown or if everyone has folded
- action out of turn may be binding
- action may only be reopened with at least a (50% or 100%) raise
- players may not discuss their hands (folded or not) nor the possible hands of others
...
Electricute is right.. you want to start at 2/4limit. Don't worry too much about being new.. just watch how the other people play and you'll pick it up.

Bigger casinos yes, but smaller casinos often don't have lines for the tables, and if they do, you just wait in line until a seat opens up, then you grab a seat. The casino in Gananoque is a perfect example of that.
Not every casino is the same. You shouldn't use the word "never."

Well, you don't want to be playing anything higher than 1/2 if you have no idea (or are not a good online player) how to play effectively in live games.
I say bring 2-3 buyins and once you lose that, stop.
Depending on which casino you go to, there may or may not be a line.

yeah, i play online quite a bit with my friends and at school, but like i said, it's not really the same as actually playing in real life, so even though i may be confident while playing amongst my friends i doubt i'll be risking a lot of my money (even $10+) playing at a table for the first couple of times.

You don't want to risk more than $10 of your money, but you want to play $5/10 Hold Em? You will bring exactly one BB to the table?
I think you should stick with online games, or watch some live poker for a while before sitting down.

I don't think Deep was being sarcastic. When you said $5/$10 limit hold'em the implication is that you wanted to play with those as the blinds and not a tournament. Even if the blinds were $1/$2 or $2/$4, $10 is going to go quite quickly unless you get super lucky.

oh, well i didn't mean to say with $5/10 blinds, cause i'd be done after the BB.. i just realized that 5/10 meant SB and BB.
i think what i meant to ask was whether or not it's possible to play at a table for 5-10 bucks (like the whole game)

No. Stick with playing at your friend's house or online. Casinos will laugh at you if you ask them this question.

That's exactly what I thought you meant, which is why I gave you the completely well intentioned advice that I did. If you're going to be rude in return, then by all means, just show up at the casino with $10, jump into a game, have a blast.

i actually didn't mean to be rude, but i take comments personally sometimes and i just misinterpreted your comment.
i'm not trying to be rude to anybody in here, but sometimes i just feel stupid enough asking some of these questions.

That's the great thing about a place like this - you can ask as many "stupid" questions as you like and no one knows who you are! Keep in mind that EVERY question seems stupid to somebody, but if you learned something from it, then it was a valid question to ask.
The only people who I really go out of my way to mock are the people who think they don't need to ask questions, don't learn anything when they DO ask questions, and still manage to put down others for similar behaviour ;)

Everytime an OP gets pwned, they usually put their tail between thir legs and delete the content of their post, and ask the mods to delete it, to minimiza shame damage

Pretty much.
Just let the thread die if you are embarassed by it. Or suck it up and take it like a man. Don't scream DELETE and tuck your between you legs because someone posts something you dont like. Heck - I didn't know anything about casino gambling and poker and the thread we actually slightly useful, but now it has a lame "delete please" title because the op didn't like the responses he (or she, too lazy to search if skyblue12 is a boy or girl) was getting.

Who keeps track of the line? The poker room manager perhaps? Or is there an honour system white board that people sign up on?
No. Stick with playing at your friend's house or online. Casinos will laugh at you if you ask them this question.
Some jerks may laugh, poker staff will kindly let you know they don't serve stakes that small.
