I am leaving to Brazil soon for a week. They're asking $96 for all inclusive or 83 for medical. This is from the travel website.
Are there cheaper options? Maybe tips or workarounds.->(like visa offers 1 year warrantee on new items after original expires..)

I normally use the CAA insurance but have used it from Royal Bank. In both cases they were a lot cheaper than the travel agent.

You cant just say $30 without knowing the age of the traveller, destination, and duration. Around $100 is the standard rate.

Speaking of which, does anyone have any experience on what happens if you book separate tickets for multiple destinations and you tend to miss your connection? I know that if you have just one ticket with multiple connections, you are fine but if you're not, so the travel agent told me you're SOL.

I like using http://www.insuremytrip.ca

Used them a couple of times - it's nice that you get to chose your coverage from the various vendors.

I use Travel Cuts and just buy plan "B" Emergency medical, trip cancellation/interuption.

http://www.travelcuts.com/en/03%20Insurance/Insurance%20Rates%20At%20A%20Glance.asp

It has been $45 per person for the last two trips I have done. I just usually buy it over the phone at

I found the co-operators to have decent rates and you can buy online with credit card.

I always go with World Nomads, http://www.worldnomads.com. They are cheap and also give you a free travel blog, sms security alerts (which are good if you're going to any dodgy places) and language guides for spanish & other languages. I found a 10% discount code too which is SYDXPO.

if you were buying your flight ticket from aircanada.com there would be a little box on the purchase screen giving a choice of 3 different levels of RBC insurance.

If its costing you almost $100 for the trip, you should consider annual coverage. I would NOT RECOMMEND TD TRAVEL INSURANCE!! They F'ed me. I hear CAA/AAA is much better.

Try President's Choice (http://www.pcinsurance.ca/ROCEN/TI.asp?referid=leftnav). They have an online calculator which shouldn't take much time to complete and get a quote.

I think the best solution is your credit card company!

Go for a reputable name. It is not all about price.

I've been using RBC, Manulife and Travelcuts over the years. If you need medical only, RBC is good. Travelcuts has good price on cancellations.

1 week comprehensive coverage shouldnt be more than 50 bucks..

I think the best solution is your credit card company!

Be sure to read the detailed policy! I found most CC travel insurance covers way less than separately purchase TI, despite they are using the same coverage categories!
