Is this true, if I'm going with my sister to Costa Rica (Liberia, age 17) I need a letter of consent from my parents? what the heck is this for? How would i get one, and has anyone experienced this?

If your sister is 17 and your under age.A letter of consent is a very good idea. You just need your parents to sign off on this trip.

Yes, your parents have to get one. They don't have to use a Notary Public, though; it can be through a Commissioner of Oaths. A Commissioner of Oaths doesn't have to be a lawyer, but that's what they tend to be.
I recently got one done through these guys (http://www.instantnotary.ca/) (for $20), but there may be another option better for you.
You can use the sample letter at http://www.voyage.gc.ca/main/before/consent_letter-en.asp if you need one.

Call the travel agency, they will tell you exactly what you need to travel on the flights/tour/resort they booked you in.

oh ok thanks. It says $75 for travelling note:S. Are you sure it doesnt need to be the public one? The $75 fee is for them to write and notarize the consent letter. If you prepare your own, the notarization fee is just $30. When I went this week, they said the Commissioner of Oaths was okay so that's what I chose.
