I need about 6 feet. Is there any place cheaper than monoprice?

Likely not. You can use pretty much any RCA cables, you know.

Why would you tell him to use RCA cables when he asked about component?

It's like someone asking for a good deal on a Porsche and telling them that they can use pretty much any K-car.

Maybe you are confusing component and composite.

Other than monoprice you might be able to get them at XSCargo or certain dollar stores, but I'd still say Monoprice will give you the best deal for what you get.

You know that component cables ARE RCA cables right?

Yeah I've heard they're the same, but do they offer the same picture quality? Should I run down to the dollar store for some cheap RCA cables?

Don't you have a set of red/white/yellow you can try? They'll work and I doubt the cheapie cables from monoprice will do you any better.

Not really. Component cables are the same as the Yellow video cable, but much higher grade than the thin red/white audio ones.

I've run composite through 3x video RCA, but it craps out with thin red/white audio ones.

A higher grade? Look at the cheapie throwaway cables they give you - do you notice a difference in size between the yellow and red and white? I assure you there is nothing higher "grade" about the yellow cable.

If you're not going to buy decent component cables, don't bother at all. Use what you already have.

No need to be snotty. You sound like my mom.

My bad - both component and composite are RCA. It just always seems like when I speak to anyone about cables they always refer to composite (yellow cable - low quality) as RCA and component (RGB - highest video quality) as component.

So I was partially wrong. It won't ruin my day.

There are probably some confusion over this argument here.

Good Component Cable offer better quality. But when one person is looking for "cheap" component cable. He/she may risk losing out because the video quality may be similar to RCA cable.

Note: That's using 3 yellow RCA cable to substitute, and plug into the RED/GREEN/BLUE component video input/output. This is not to be confused with recommending someone to use RCA input/output instead of Component input/output.

Another Note: Like the free component cable that comes with Roger's HD cable box. IMHO, they are just 3 RCA glue together. But I am happy with it.

If the requester has 3 RCA video cable available. I would surely try that out and see if you have happy with the result.

Wait a sec, let me get this straight.

If you were to take a Yellow/White/Red RCA cable.. and plug it into the Red/Green/Blue in the same sequence on both ends of say a receiver and a TV... it will work the same as a regular red/green/blue component cable??

Or are you using 3 separate Yellow video connectors?

RGB is something else as well - that's a 5 wire cable for R/G/B + H/V. Component is Y/Pb/Pr, not RGB.

Yes? Try and see what happens. I promise nothing blows up. :P

Note that I'm not really recommending this from a quality standpoint, but it will work. The only difference between yellow and red/white is the colour - and perhaps the gauge of the yellow is higher on some 'premium' bundled A/V red/white/yellow packages. That aside, same cable.

I won't get into the whole 75ohm impedance thing - we're dealing with basics here. :)
