you have to buy gamecube controllers and a gamecube memory card to play gamecube games on the wii

GameCube games ONLY work with a GameCube controller. To save games, you also need a GameCube memory card. It plays them with absolutely no problem. Every GameCube game works perfectly.

When you pop in a disc and play it from teh Wii menu, the Wii pretty much becomes a gamecube and the Wiimote completely stops working. To get back to the Wii menu, you have to reboot the Wii. If you eject a disc, it will say that the gamecube lid is opened! so you need a Gamecube memory card and controller. I haven't had any problems playing my cube games at all.

Well, if one part of your family wants to play Mario Party and the other part wants to play SSB... there won't be conflict

liek wats the pointSo that you can:
a) Put your gamecube away, 1 system instead of 2.
b) Get your Progressive scan/Component cables, cause we KNOW Nintendo never shipped any for the Gamecube even though 50+% of the games supported it.
c) Slot loading is just that much more awesome with GC Sized disks.

I've heard that the Wii actually has a Gamecube basically built inside of it (like the hardware is in there) so the Wii does actually become a Gamecube when you pop in a gamecube disc 'cause there's a Gamecube inside there!
Can anyone else corroborate that? I'm just curious as to whether I heard that info right.

I wish you could go back to the wii menu using the wiimote instead of having to reset it.

An analogy is like PC hardware: Imaging the Gamecube as a old P3 computer, and the Wii would be a new Core Duo computer. It's going to be backwards compatible because it's on similar architecure.
In actual hardware programming, when the Wii get's a GC disk loaded in, it downgrades the CPU/GPU/RAM speed and power to match the GC, hence, a working Gamecube inside the Wii.

Another fact with this that a lot don't seem to know, is you can actually use the GC controller in place of the Classic Controller on Vitural Console games...saves you from spending the extra $$$ on the Classic Controller.
Only downside, it isn't wireless then...unless you have a wireless GC controller of course.
The best deal was when Radio Shack was closing last month, I got 2 MadCatz GC Controllers and 2 Memory Cards for $20...gotta love close-outs!

I think most people DO know about this. This topic has been brought up a few times in regards to the GC wireless controller, the Wavebird. Personally, I have one of a each, a Wii controller and a Wavebird

Same. What I usually end up doing is turning off the Wii like I would a GC when I am finished playing a GC game, then turn it back on if I want to play something else. Just a little annoyance.
