View Full Version : Who's bored of their Wii?

So... let's hear some honest answers... we all succombed to successful nintendo marketing and bought one, so now let's hear how worthy it was :P
Put yourself into the following categories:
You last played with your Wii:
1. less than 24 hours ago
2. 1-3 days ago
3. 4-7 days ago
4. over a week ago
5. you really can't remember
I'll start... I am 3. 4-7 days ago
I played with it a lot when I first got it, almost everyday, but now it just sits there and I'd rather play super smash bros on 64/GC
no excuses too: ie don't have time, too busy, cause we know there's a million reasons why...

Not bored, just busy.. I'm usually burnt out at the end of the day and I don't feel like jumping all over the place. :p

I haven't gotten bored of it, and I don't think I will. The great thing about the Wii and it's casual approach is that it doesn't demand us to play constantly. That's what I love aout it. I can pick up WarioWare, play it for half an hour, and still feel satisfied. I bought it mainly as a console where friends can come over and play, which usually happens on the weekend.
The 360 on the other hand, makes me feel like it needs my constant attention, as paying for a yearly membership makes me feel like I need to make complete use of it. This isn't too much of a bad thing, as I love my 360 as well.
For me, the different consoles serve different purposes.

You'll get bored eventually if you're going to stay playing with mini-game games such as Wii Sports, Wario Ware, Wii Play etc.
There's not that many "actual" games like Legend of Zelda. I'm waiting out for Super Mario Galaxy this year. Super Paper Mario looks good but it doesnt match Super Mario 3.

but its my bros bday n he's gonna get zelda for his bday so we'll see how that goes.

Hahaha Wii Tennis tourney would be fun.
Zelda is a great game, if you enjoy the style of games.
I haven't touched it since I beat it, but I do plan to replay it sometime in the future.
Super Smash is coming out soon (March), just hang on until then :)

I played it last night. I'm halfway through Zelda and love it. Madden is hard but fun. May eventually sell Madden.
I'm waiting for Super Smash Bros, NBA and NHL all of which will probably be keepers.

It's not the console that you're getting bored of, it's the games. When new games come along you'll be picking back up your wii in no time.

If it wasn't for the commute home I'd probably play more - takes so much out of me. I always end up sleeping waking up at odd hours to eat then back to sleep.
WII> I'd say about a week since I've touched it. Right now its sitting in its carrying case as I bring it with me to my cousin's house in NY. Played ridiculous hours when playing Zelda. Wii sports I just don't see myself getting tired of. Haven't touched Trauma centre in a while since I overwrote my saved game by accident - was at the last operation too. Haven't tried any other games on the Wii aside from what I own:|
DS> is on everytime I'm out.
XBOX1> for hockey, fight night 3
GC> haven't played in about 2 months when I was at work on the weekend :cheesygri

Yeah, I'm getting bored. I beat Zelda and I'm now playing Excite truck trying to unlock mirrior mode. I'm waiting for metroid and other big hitters. I'm not interested in UBI PS2 ports and minigames, although Mario Party 8 may be a game to look into. And yeah, I'm a solitary gamer most of the time.

And they're killing their good franchises with annual releases.

A lot of reviews say Red Steel is crap but I thought it was pretty good. In comparison to the available games, I think it's worth getting. Comparing Red Steel to other FPS games on other systems, it wouldn't rate so well. The game is really short (~10 hours to complete for me), replay value is lacking, and the best multiplayer mode requires 4 players.

The Wii will be great for party games like Sports, Wario, and Mario Party.
The rest will be non-games like Cooking Mama, Wii Fitness, Orchestra, Nintendogs or crappy Ps2-to-Wii ports.
If you want your real game satisfaction its to be found on Ps3 (Eventually) or 360 (Now). Not to say Wii won't have some decent, though rehashed experiences with Mario, Smash Bros, Star Fox, Donkey Kong and every other typical Nintendo franchise but if you want deeper, more immersive experiences with good storylines the Wii doesn't seem to be the place for it.
As for my Wii since beating Zelda too weeks ago it hasn't been touched. I have Wii Play ready to played but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Yeah its pretty fun, but the learning curve is high so if you plan to play with friends you gotta give them a few hours at it before they get any good. Either that or some severe handy cap.

I played it for like one day, and got sick of it.
I HATE how all the games need so much effort... Flailing your arms around like an idiot = not my idea of a good time.
Wii Sports is absolutely AWFUL. I haven't even opened my copy of Zelda yet because I was so disappointed.. I should have sold this piece of crap

Kinda harsh there.. what were you expecting out of the box? Button-mashing games for couch potatoes?
"So much effort" is the negative side of it, you can also think about it as "interactive" and how "real" it is - when you're bowling, you're actually bowling, and not just pressing a button and using the d-pad to control spin, etc.

Yes, I want to be able to sit on my couch and eat potato chips or drink a beer while I play, not have to worry about standing up and jumping around like a maniac.. Who wants to do all that after a long day at work? Certainly not me.
Highly disappointed in the LEVEL of "interactivity" required is what I am getting at. Sure, it's neat, but its just a gimmick. What happens when you want to just sit down on the couch or in bed and play a game?

some games, maybe.
not the ones i've tried, thats for sure. It's a very small subset, games like DragonBall, or games like the upcoming Mortal Kombat game.
It's evident with the current batch and upcoming games: If you just want to sit and relax for all your games, the Wii is not where it's going to be. Then again, I feel that alot of the "movements" are never really needed. I don't have to flail my arms all over the place when playing excitetruck, just small tilting movements.

Sorry don't mind me asking, are you like 200+lbs, having a hard time walking around, and needing to see Jenny Craig because you sit on the couch 24/7?
You don't need to "jump" around.. heck, I have no problem playing Wii Sports sitting there, nor do I have a problem sitting down and playing Zelda and the sorts. Why do you need to jump around?

"DO I REALLY HAVE TO MOVE?" LOL Considering all it takes is a flick of the wrist for you to be saying that you have to flail your arms is ridiculous.. Don't play Wario if you really want to see flailing. Shame you sound like a bitter PS3 fanboy.

I think the Wii is a novel idea, and can definately be fun for parties...I also seem to be using my 360 alot more. Wii right now doesn't have much more than party games (TP aside). I had fun with CoD3 for a bit, then sorta got bored with the fuzzy graphics and having trouble just keeping my aimer still.
I dunno, I still see the Wii at this point as a party system. Though to me, that's what Nintendo is marketing it to.
Wii60 is the best IMO.

Sell it now while the selling's good. Seriously, you hate the system and the interactivity. You might as well sell it and just wait for a pricedrop once there are more games with the system. You must consider yourself a "hardcore" gamer not too open to new ways of doing things.

Exactly. You can bowl while sitting down. Actually for most of the Wii Sports games full swinging is actually worse as it slows your motion. Quick flicks are better.

Get Zelda. It's even lazier than a regular controller. You can just lie down and have your hands wherever the hell you want because it's in two pieces. Seriously. So comfortable. Just sucks when you have to like.. shoot stuff and aim =( Sword swings are just a normal shake of the remote.
Anyway, I just played with my Wii less than 10 mins ago (no pervs). Trauma Center Second Opinion =)

WII SALES are starting to slide in Japan as punters to lose interest. According to computerandvideogames.com, the Wii traded on its full motion control handset, but the first batch of games that came with the machine revealed too many limitations of that method of control.
For example Red Steel was twitchy and occasionally clumsy. Need For Speed: Most Wanted was nearly unplayable. Far Cry couldn't use the motion properly and in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance the motion controller was tacked on to the game and not a part of it.
Now it seems that in "gadget mad Japan", the novelty has worn off and customers are looking for the next new thing.
Most of the feeling is that the Wii needs some new games fast and cannot rely on porting games from other systems. Wii games that did well were Elebits, Wii Sports and Wario Ware: Smooth Moves which are now being used as blueprints for how motion-controlled gaming works when done properly.
The next wave of games, including Metroid, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and Nintendo big-shot Super Smash Bros. Brawl, are due out later this year. If these do not pick the Wii from out of the slump then the field will be left to the Xbox360 and the PS3

The Wii is great for 'innovative' games that take advantage of the motion controls. Most of these games will be first party titles from Nintendo.
The question is whether there will be enough of these great 1st party games to carry the system in the long run. There weren't for the Gamecube.
The Wii will suffer because 3rd party ports will look vastly inferior compared to the 360 and PS3, because the hardware in the Wii is quite frankly dated and inferior. This is in contrast to last gen where the Gamecube was more powerful than the PS2. Expect Wii games to look crappy compared to the competition on the 360 and PS3, some say they already do.
Personally I think the Wii will be a nice novelty system but owning a Wii *alone* will not satisfy gamers. It will remain a fun niche system like the Gamecube was. I own a 360 and will likely buy a Wii when the price drops below $200. I don't see a good value right now at the price the system is selling at, especially when the system doesn't play DVDs (our TVs only have so many AV inputs!) Very little high def support doesn't impress me either. Does the system have a VGA cable available?
Just my opinion of course.

Sure, it's dropping, but let's look at your next gen alternatives in terms of sales:
Wii: ~60-70,000 Weekly
PS3: ~25,000 Weekly
360: ~4,000 Weekly.
Isn't it ironic that when you say "slide in interest", it's the same timeframe as the dropoff from christmas sales?
