I saw the signs for this while being dropped off at the airport. From the map, it looks quite far from T1.

Cell Phone Lot
If you have arranged to pick up passengers by car and are waiting for them to arrive at the airport, we invite you to park at the GTAA’s new Cell Phone Lot. This short-term parking area provides motorists with a safe and legal location to stop their vehicles while waiting for passengers to call for a ride. The Cell Phone Lot has parking spaces for 50 vehicles, and allows a maximum wait time of 60 minutes.

The Cell Phone Lot is located just north of the airport on Network Drive, between Highway 409 and American Drive (see map).

Note: Vehicles must be turned off and attended at all times. The lot is monitored and violators will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.

I'll stick with the Tim Horton's on Eglinton west of Renforth. It's closer for me, and I get to enjoy coffee

I live 20 minutes from the airport. I have friends call me as soon as their plane turns off the engine and the fasten seatbelt sign is off. By the time I get to the terminal, they're usually standing on the curb.

Last time I was there, there was 0 car in the cell phone waiting area
and lots of cars on the side of the downhill ramp

But it's a good idea, they just need to promote it more

This works if you are travelling domestic and have no checked bags. Otherwise, depending on who you get, the customs and immigration agents can throw off your plans.

is there a giant screen that displays arrivals and departures?

if there isn't it would be a great idea.

This thing makes so much sense, those people who make you move your car are such assh0les. My friend loaded her luggage and had to go use the washroom, I was waiting for like a minute and he gave me the move along. Since I didn't feel like doing a loop, I started driving like .5 km/h haha he didn't look impressed

Ah yes, the GTAA revenue rangers.... I had an encounter with one of them last month while dropping off my gf at the departures level. I got out of the car to unload her bag, and since she was going to be away for awhile.... gave her a longer than usual send off ;). The traffic goon yelled out "move it along or I'm going to give you a ticket". Mind you the airport was completely deserted, with the exception of two cars in front of me, one of which was unattended! So I said "ok, give me a moment and I'll be out of here." "MOVE IT!" I saw him opening up the ticket book and looking for the license plate on my car, but the trunk lid (which is where the plate was) was open . Closed the trunk and drove away. My guess is he didn't get any lovin' on Valentine's day :cheesygri

Was just in the cell phone lot yesterday, about 10 cars. More than double that in people sitting on the side of the roads. Some were sitting on the side of the on-ramp just adjacent to the cell phone lot. Don't understand why they would sit there given the cell phone lot was meters away. Maybe they can't read or don't understand a picture of a cell phone and P.

The signs are pretty small though. In conversations with friends, the vast majority are still not aware of this lot's existence even though it's been open for years now. Do the cops ever ticket these cars parked on the side of the road?

The signs are small, but some of the cars I saw were parked right next to the signs with the white cell phone on blue background next to the no stopping symbol. They just have to look out their passenger window.

Plus there were two of those electronic road signs (similar to those used for construction information) leading up to the terminal.
