Hey all,

Does anyone work in a CA firm (GTA) that knows their company is hiring CA students? It's extremely hard to find out which firms are hiring at the moment. Does anyone want to help me out by helping me send my resume internally? Thanks in advance. I've been looking for one in 3 months now with no success, so I want to just give this a shot and see if this is going to work better or not, since I believe sending in the resume internally has a much bigger chance than sending it externally with no connections.

Guys, comeone, help this guy out.

Especialy anyone from Ernst and Young. Those guys are still hiring. How do i know? Becuase at my school they have this crazy marketing campign - newspapers like crazy and postering all over campus.

Plus, you get the 2000 referal bonus.

Meet up somewhere and discuss issues. If you think he is alright, then go for it.

As I've mentioned before, what jkwan needs is a referral from someone he's worked with before (i.e. school projects).

Frankly, I would not refer someone I don't know or haven't worked with. If someone can't get a referral from people he knows, that's not a good sign.

I don't think EY is hiring new Staff 1's right now. They're probably hiring co-ops from certain schools.

The thing is, most of my friends/ students in my program are working in the big 4, so I can't ask them for referrals since they're pretty much done hiring. What I need is someone that works in a small/med CA firm to give me a referral, or even just to notify me if his/her firm is hiring or not, and if possible, send in my resume internally.

What kind of idiot would refer someone they don't know personally?

Geez.

My suggestion is this. If you're offended ... I apologize in advance.

Get someone to proof read your resume and / or cover letter.

Judging from your topic ... I'd say english isn't your first language. That may be evident in your resume and if I were reading your resume, I'd throw it out.

I know because I mentor students in B.Com at U of T, many who are here on visas from asian countries. And their resumes need a LOT of work. I can see why they're struggling to get interviews. It's too bad though. They're smart kids who'll bust their butt.

You are plain ****** and stupid.

You think people are careful of how they spell hear on RFD?
You think people are careful of any grammatical errors on rfd as they would on a resume?

Time to get a brain.

No .. I don't think they do.

You're proof of that ... and I'd bet you were VERY careful when you drafted that post.

LOL

Ohboiya was just trying to give some constructive criticism. I don't think anything he said was meant to offend. He was actually very complimenting towards the end of his post. I also agree with his statement.

i agree...i make mistakes on internet forums all the time most likely because i type fast, sometime type faster than i think..but i would double check, triple check if not quatraple check my resume before sending it out, however i also agree it is stupid to refer someone you dont personally know...

Well yes, I don't double check what I write on internet forums. The purpose for this post is to see who's out there that works in a CA firm, which is currently hiring, as I said it's extremely hard to find out myself. I agree it's not too wise referring someone you don't know, but my thought is, why can't I just give this a try and ask? It doesn't hurt to ask, and in fact, I got someone that gives me a referral because of this post. He asked me for my resume 1st, and he said if it doesn't look good, or in other words, qualify for the position, then he wouldn't give me the referral. At the end he thinks it's ok and he gave me the referral. But I'm trying to say is, maybe you can at least read over my resume 1st and see if I deserve the chance?

well i am not even in the workforce yet, so i cannot help you, but best of luck.

do you mind telling me why it has been so difficult for you to find a job, while your friends already work for big 4,(assuming they graduate from the same program as you). it is really odd that a CA or a person working toward a CA cannot find a job...

Ok sure, they graduated in June, and I had to finish up the courses and I finished in Dec. By then, big 4s and other med sized companies were finished hiring. I got a few interviews, all were from small sized firms. It's probably the combination of lack of experience interviews/ timing that is hurting me.

Thanks to keanefan for reminding me to update this thread.

To anyone that cares about this. I got a job in Feb in a medium sized CA firm. It was a hassel to find a job, I'm glad it's over and I can move on to bigger challenges. If anyone is looking for a CA job, PM me and I can offer you some advices/experiences.

Thank you for your support!! I'll be writing the CKE in Jan 08, as I don't want to try to rush things, and taking it next year gives me some time to learn more about the job, and hopefully I can perform better on the CKE. But nonetheless, can you guys still send me your CKE material?

I'll be emailing you stuff for the CKE.
But I would strongly recommend doing the CKE in May. It is relatively easy - many people get by with studying for just 2 weeks or less. In my case, I was working so much in November and December that I only studied in that week or so over Christmas & New Year's.

At least try to write the CKE, SOA, and UFE this year. I know it'll be a challenge, but think about it this way...as soon as you pass the UFE, it opens up so many doors for you. If you wanted to, you could easily switch to Big 4 firm as soon as you pass the UFE.

Also, since the SOA and UFE prep process hasn't quite started yet at the Big 4 firms, you won't be behind your friends who graduated at the same time as you. You can still have the same study groups, borrow their practice cases, etc.

How many aspiring Accountants does it take to change a light bulb ?

One to post on RFD about it, 6 to bash him for posting a question that has been asked before, 3 to offer constructive criticism , 4 to bash the critics, and 1 to change the bulb through PM .

yep, totally agreed. I'd write the exam as soon as possible since the material will be fresh in your mind from school
