Pardon my ignorance.
What would make this set worth the original price of $800 ? and at $300, what would make this set better than the rest of them. There are many sold for less than half these prices, including kitchenaid.
I'm in the market for one, but at a lost of why they are so expensive.

I'm in the market for one, but at a lost of why they are so expensive.Cuz the markup with any cooking set is ridiculously high. You're also paying for the brand and marketing too. Hey, some of it will go back to "Jamie Oliver" for lending his name which isn't free. ;)
You can get a similar $150 lesser or no name brand stainless steel cooking set and it will do the same flaming job as the $800 set. Will the $800 set outlast the $150 set? Possibly. But I'll take my chances on the less expensive set.

This set is made in France by Tefal.
I have this set, and it's awesome. The quality is definitely a step above the Chinese crap on the market.

A step above yes, though the weight and quality are not up to par with other 11 piece sets priced about the same that do not go on sale often.
You are paying about $400 for the name would be my opinion.

The hard anodized set is on my wedding gift registry. Very nice quality. Something to look for in any cooking pans is the thickness of the base. A lot of poor quality pans will warp from heat, then they won't sit flat and heat evenly on your burners. However, the base also needs to be made of a material that conducts heat well and evenly, so don't just buy the heaviest ones you can find.

..there are a lot of good sets out there....over inflated price for sure.
At that price it should be excellent.
I note that some of these (not just the above set) pots/pans are big/bulky and could be a problem for some people.
Chinese crap??? Most sets come out of China...by the big US companies.
In China you get a full range....from inexpensive to expensive.
Expensive is not always the best... sometime you just pay for the name.
I just bought a 12 piece set Cuisinart.. Hard Anodized..from Amazon US...$105 US...and a free 1 qt saucier by mail.
Gets very good reviews.
It's good to have an Amerifriend.

I bought these as a Christmas gift at $359. I got a price adjustment at $319 the second week of January. I doubt I'll go back for the $20 more, but I can confirm that these are the lowest price since November and should be considered a good deal.

I don't have room for a set,
but when I bought my frying pan and stockpot at a restaurant shop I was told that it is good to have an encapsulated bottom on the pans to conduct heat better.
My pans are stainless steel and the bottom has a hollow space that contains and aluminium disk to conduct heat better.
If you pans are all steel also, you can put them in the oven, so I could roast a turkey in my stockpot or something...
The brand I have is Volrath, paid $80 for just 1 frying pan about on sale.

In the past they sold the Martha Stewart line too, I got a set of those for about $250 and they have a thick copper base on them to distribute the heat.
These likely do the same thing, so the best way to look at these are as a long term investment and not something that you get as 'cheap set' like you would in university.
The best bet is to go to a store and look at them in person, feel the weight and see what other options are there for a similar price.

So, I bought this set for my friend's wedding a couple of years ago. they love them. Nothing sticks to them and they're stainless steel.
If you want an even better deal, sign up for an HBC credit card and get an extra 10% off the purchase.

I did exatly that plus a $100 GC, total of $200 or thereabouts.
They work great too, when you boil water with the lid on there are no splashes unlike the previous cheap set we had which made quite a mess.
Wife is quite happy.

According to consumer reports, this set (http://www.costco.ca/en-CA/Browse/Product.aspx?whse=BCCA&topnav=&prodid=10290835&ec=&pos=0F) from Costco is the #1 rated set for both coated and non-coated cookware, and the only set that achieved an excellent rating. Scored about an 80 vs. a 62 for the TFal set. And is more than $100 cheaper.
The Jamie Oliver set is a good set, but even at the sale price with 10%-20% extra off depending on payment method is still overpriced IMHO.

What is the difference? I know stainless steel is all the rage these days. Conveys so much more than quality, class, prestige, etc. What's Anodized?
How does Martha Stewart brand compare to this?

erm...maybe I am missing something here, but isn't the only thing you need for an induction cooktop a metal pot/pan? Shouldn't any type of steel do the trick? I know they make specialized cookware, but I always thought it was unnecessary...

AllClad quality is a pretty big claim - what is this based on?

AllClad quality is a pretty big claim - what is this based on?
Feature for Feature they are almost identical.
Both have:
5 Ply impact bonded bases comprised of 18/10 stainless steel, with aluminum and copper cores
Solid cast riveted handles
Oven safe to 500f
both have a lifetime warrantee (although returning to costco would be much easier)

Probably because the set he uses is a professional set worth over $1000.
I'm sure George foreman uses his oven too sometimes instead of the lean mean roasting machine.

Anodized is aluminum ..highly compressed....harder than steel.
Why not ask Google...it's all there....best library of info in the world?

I've done my research in this area as well very recently because I needed to replace my pots & pans set. I didn't find many good/positive reviews of the Jamie Oliver series to be honest.
At the end of the day, I purchased the Emerilware 10 pcs stainless steel set from Linen & Things Canada for $299. It had a significant price drop recently. It also included bonus 10" cast iron square grill pan for free. You get it right in the store, not something you have to send away for in the mail.
Here's the link:
http://canada.lnt.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1362881&cp=1331607.1331948.2544440&parentPage=family
It also helped that I still had a 20% off a single item coupon for LNT!
At the end of the day, it comes down to personal preference and what you're comfortable with. But do your research. I found the epinions site quite helpful as its not professionals doing the reviewing but the average joes. http://www1.epinions.com/Emerilware_Stainless_Steel_10_Piece_Cookware_Set_C ookware
Cheers.
