So my cousin wants to come to canada(most likely Vancouver or Toronto) to work as a graphics designer.

She is coming over from Hong Kong.

She has a diploma in Commercial Design.

She wants to know what procedures that she should go through in order to work and live in Canada. Does she have to deal with Immigration or get a work permit? im not sure on this subject, so can someone please tell me what you would have to do to come to canada to work from hong kong?(links and comments will be helpful).

Also any jobs that you know of would be cool too!(Hook us up!)

One more thing, please comment on how she could improve in order for better chances of employment here, like schools or example.

TIA

is she looking to immigrate here or just work here? If i'm not mistaken, you will need your employer to get you a working visa. You cannot just come here and look for jobs. Same thing applies to working in the US.

She clearly wants to get out of China, no surprise there.

Graphic Design is an over populated field. Don't expect to have immigration officials to be impressed with that career choice.

Tell her to learn how to lay bricks or preform any trades work and they will get their work permit much faster. Canada is severly lacking in the trades, this is crucial to the sustainable development of Canada.

She would have to find an employer who is willing to hire her before coming to Canada. And the employer is willing to do the footwork to prove that she, and only she can do the job that they intend to hire her for. And that no other Canadian can do that same job. This has to go thru Dept. of Human Resources.

Sometimes what works is that the hiring company has a very stringent job description that only that person fits that description. e.g. She speaks 5 languages, etc.

a few months ago the federal gov announced some sort of accelerated process for the work visa's for skilled workers in Vancouver because supposedly there's WAY too many unfilled jobs here.
