I don't watch TV. Ever. I don't even have a cable from the wall hooked into my LCD Television. I just watch movies.:)

This makes my assignment difficult: get my mum's house an HDTV terminal/receiver and programming. Because I don't know anything about TV, searching for info is hella confusing because there are so many damn receivers & programming packages it makes my head spin. I don't know what makes one network different from the next. It would take me weeks to figure this all out. But I know there are many people who live & breathe this stuff. A little help please?:)

She has had Shaw BASIC cable and is perfecty happy with it. Costs $27 a month. However, she just got an HDTV and would like to take advantage of it. At a minimum, I need to get her the same channels she is used to getting but in HD. From what I understand, the main networks are mostly broadcast in HD so this is not a problem. It would also be nice to get a movie channel for additional entertainment. Sports channels are not needed. I'd like to keep the cost similar to what she is currently paying at $27/mo.

So...what is the cheapest way to get this type of service and equipment? I understand my choice is between Shaw cable, Starchoice, and Bell Express Vu. A PVR looks like it is too expensive so I think just a regular HD receiver/box thing is best.

Think minimalist here...she doesn't need the super-gold-plated-viagra-boner-multi-platinum-diamond-encrusted package that lets her watch sesame street in Swahili. Thanks in advance for your help:cheesygri
