just tried installing Windows Live Messenger on Vista but the program keeps closing. it says that the Data Execution Prevention program is closing the program. I went to try and manually turn off the DEP for Messenger but it says that windows wont allow me to turn it off for this program.

then i tried, setting up Messenger with another OS through Vista, but get the same thing.

anyone encounter this or know how to resolve the issue? thanks

I had a problem with MSN on XP (I know might not apply to you) but the damn thing just wouldn't log in. I thought it was my router, so I tried connected directly, then I read through conutless threads from google on everything from updating dll's to reinstalling etc.

The end solution was that my date was set for the wrong year, something like 2004. MSN Refused to work because the date was too old.

So yeah double check your dates. Other then that I dont know what to tell you. Call microsoft :P

Redownload it. Or use the hotlink in the Start menu.

Ya it worked fine for me. Make sure the user account you are using has Administrative access.
