Last december I accepted the offer at EY. Regardless to say I am very excited to start.

I have a question though. I know this is a bit off. But everyone in my practice was given a laptop (entry level) as well.

Are these laptops new? How latest they are in technology? LOL.
If I start work in July, whats the probablity it will have vista

I see doublepost above, mods please close this one.

I don't work at EY but computer policies are pretty similar across the big 4. Laptops are replaced every three years. So, rest assured, the laptop you will get won't be more than three years old. The brand of the laptop will depend on whichever major manufacturer was willing to provide EY with the lowest price / best deal.

No chance of it having Vista. Most companies won't integrate Vista for probably another 18 to 24 months. Too much overhaul required for little gain (at least right now).

3 years ?

That can get old for technology, but oh well!

Hilarious...most interested in the laptop. :cheesygri I was the same way.
Everyone at the Toronto office has either a Thinkpad T40 or Dell D620. All the T40 users are in the process of being converted to the Dell D620's...so that's probably what you'll get. By July probably everyone will be on the Dells. Since it's a new rollout you'll probably get a brand new one or close to it. The D620 isn't bad for a work laptop - Centrino Duo 2Ghz, 2GB RAM, 14" screen, relatively light. No plans for Vista.

Summer intern? What industry group?

Just wondering, in September gotta start my first job with EY. What lappies do they have at the Montreal office?
Can I install my own software on their/my laptop (i mean vista or smth else), or I need to get some sort of approval from IT dep?

Same computers for Montreal office (and probably all the offices in Canada)...in the process of switching from T40/T43's to Dell D620's.
As for installing your own software, you're not supposed to install anything at all without permission. Nobody really cares if you install your own applications/games/movies/MP3s...but installing Vista would not be a good idea. You use the computer pretty much 100% of the time while at work and you can't risk anything not working.

BTW, if you're at the Montreal office, you can pretty much count on being assigned to the Toronto office for a month or two each year.

TSRS/fulltime

Yeah I saw few people working on thinkpads and few on DELL. I think people who joined the firm in September last year, had DELL I think.

I was told they work very closely together. And TSRS is a part of BRS by my manager.

Yeh, I think they do work closely since they are both Risk related.

However, if you go to: http://www.ey.com/global/content.nsf/International/Home

TSRS and BRS are listed under AABS, so they do support work for them.

btw, what stuff do you do in TSRS? Is it authorized hacking? Or what? just curious..
