I have a Rogers 3100 HD box which only sends out closed caption when connecting it using RF, composite or S-Video, no closed caption on component. I heard that closed caption signal cannot be put through component cable, the digital box must support and put it into the picture transfered. Does anybody see closed caption through component, and what is the model number of your digital box? Thanks.

I'm using the 8300HD with HDMI and I get CC.

Call Rogers and ask them to swap your 3100HD for a 3250HD. For HD channels, CC data can't be output to the TV and must be decoded by the box itself. The 3250HD supports this but not the 3100HD.

Thanks. I am going to call Rogers nearby to see whether they have 3250 in store.

The problem is there's two types of captioning now, basically analog and digital captions.. component shouldn't be a problem, but HDMI/DVI tends to be. TV's don't decode the analog captions if it's coming in over a digital signal... I'm guessing that soon the FTC will make a pronouncment on this, as the TV's have both decoders anyways, so it'd be trivial to make it work.

I had to hookup my girlfriends DVD player by both component and HDMI. For regular watching if the dvd is subtitled, we use hdmi, but if it's captioned only, we use the component output. She has a toshiba 26HF66 26" HD CRT, and a Samsung R135 if i remember right.

Do you mean closed captioning signal can be transferred through component cable?

Do you mean closed captioning signal can be transferred through component cable?Yes. However, it has to be both sent, and interpreted properly by your tv... either one not working, no captions.
