I think you put salt in warm water and gargle.

Theres no real way to treat canker sores. They come and go.
Theres no definite cause but they will go away after about a week.

All you can do is relieve the pain. If its bothering you a lot, you can get Anbesol (or another oral pain reliever).
I had a canker sore like a week ago. I took some weird eastern drugs. Seemed to work but I can't say for sure. Could have been a placebo.
One thing everyone says to do is Salt water to rinse your mouth.
Its like puttiing salt on a wound. It doesn't really heal it much faster.

Get a prescription for some triamcinolone (only corticosteroids can treat canker sores effectively). And don't aggrevated it by putting salt on it.

I've always used a medicated mouthwash called Tantum (prescription required). It works like a charm!

My family uses this too I believe. I remember looking it up one day, it's actually for cancer treatment or something, I can't remember exactly. Stuff works though, just expensive I think.

I also have a medicated (anti-microbial) oral wash. It really works like a charm. I got mine from my dentist.

I just put some salt. It burns like a mofo but it feels better the next day. I'm guessing the salt kills the infection or whatever.

Instead of salt put baking soda directly on the sore. It really stings but works a lot better.

Regular mouth wash always works for me. I tried hydrogen peroxide before and it works, but not as well as mouth wash.

Let it burn for that minute or so... you'll feel better in the morning.

Salt and water does nothing....

I used to get canker sores all the time....no idea why.

But a friend suggested eating yogurt, so I tried it. Worked amazingly well for me and now I eat a cup of yogurt a day. I rarely get canker sores now.

According to wikipedia, you should:

Eat 8 ounces per day of yogurt with active Lactobacillus acidophilus cultures.

But I have tried all types of yogurt and they all work amazingly well for me.

before you go to sleep. put some toothpaste on the canker sore. it stings at first. But the canker sore doesn't grow anymore, and usually disappears within days.

"vitamin C tablet or an aspirin tablet and pushing it firmly against the cold sore for as long as it (the tablet) would hold together .... hurts a lot, especially at first, as both C and aspirin are acid and the tissue involved is sensitive even before it's opened and raw from the sore"

--> it does reduce the size and seems to heal quicker, kind of numbs it a bit

Salt should do somthing, since in freshwater fish tanks if your fish has a cut, by putting a salt concentration it does something to fight infections or prevent it. Probaly some antibacterial thing???

Cankersores are not an infection or a virus.

Do people get cankersores from accidentally biting your lips too hard?

you get it from biting your lips by accident.
if your toothbrush is too hard, and you aggrivate the skin, it will also open up a cankersore.

Anti bacterial mouthwash seems to fix it pretty quickly though.

I have an awesome way of getting rid of them, works like a charm.

Instead of gargling salt water, run your index finger under water for a second, and dip it into a cup of salt, or sprinkle salt onto it. Then when your finger is covered, place it on to the canker and rub the salt onto the canker so it is covered, try to let it stay as long as you can, just close your mouth and dont talk for a bit, it stings like a ***** nd makes the thing bleed just a bit, not alot. Do this once in the day and once at night, two days and it's gone.

salt + warm water. gargle for 30 seconds, spit out and rinse. continue throughout the day, 5-6 times a day. make sure u deal with that after you eat/drink/sleep/smoke

oily, fried, greasy food makes it worse.

try to eat a little more simple for the next few days.

good luck!

Canker sores usually disappear on their own in a week.

If you apply salt, baking soda, or hydrogen peroxide to it, and sit through the pain, it'll usually go away in 7 days.

I heard rubbing Birds Eye Custard POWDER on the canker sore gives temporary relief...
