Since the bag issue has become an issue. I just drove by a McDonalds, a Tim Hortons and a Burger King, all had drive thrus and all had huge lines with idling cars. Should these be banned, because in most cases (unless the line is empty) it takes longer than three minutes to go through. I say we should....

Get ready for some packing in fast food restaurants then, not to mention no parking spots.

People are lazy and don't want to move there big butts out of there cars. They rather just sit in there car and wait the same amount.

It is the exact same number of cars... the only difference is that the ones in the drive thru are on. It might require a little more parking. There should also be exceptions like a coffee only drive thru at Timmies - the guy in front always has to order a toasted bagel!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

If they are serious ban all the future ones from building a drive thru and use the space instead for parking spots.

I cant see them getting rid of current ones though.

I hate waiting in drive throughs...if there are more than a couple cars in line, its usually faster to just park and go in.

Our city is bound to look like that in the movie "Bladerunner" sooner or later.

Most Timmy's give priority to the drive thru customers, so those waiting inside in line often only have one person waiting the counter , and the drive thru will have a full crew.

I drive by a Tim Hortons, a McDonalds and a Country Style store with drive thru everyday on my way to work, and it never ceases to amaze me that a lot of times there are 10+ cars lining up in the drive thru lane but ZERO lineup inside the restaurant. I thought the original idea of drive thru was the amount of time it is supposed to save?

Oh I see. Thanks for clarifying.

Well, I think that if people see a line up for the drive thru's, they should park and go in instead. If there's no line up, take the drive thru route as it is a lot faster.

But seriously... at lunch times, these fast food restaurants are packed already with drive thru available. Imagine the ruckus if there is no drive thru.

You were correct, it was the environment i was hinting at. I go inside almost all the time. I also think you are right laziness is the main reason.

Are the "drive thru's" at the border going to be included in this ban. How about the ones at the aircare testing stations? Or the ones we call "intersections" during rush hour?

I remember when gas was $1.25/litre, the drive throughs still had huge lines of SUV's all idling waiting 10-15 minutes. My thoughts were, 'I guess gas prices are still too cheap!'

Only if it is possible. Usually, 2 things happened.

1. There is no parking spot available.
2. There is a parking spot but after you park and pick up your stuff, you can't get out because of the traffic.

My solution: I do even bother to get in.

Well, people can just do what I do, turn off the engine. When I figure out I need to wait for a minute or more (like some intersections; waiting for the train to pass through), I just turn off the engine.

killing drive thrus wont add wait times to fast food....
They could just get the order dispatcher to work an extra till on cash.
I notice that Drive thru orders take longer. It only saves you time b/c you dont have to park your car... But i also notice that those Drive thru radio's have really ****** reception. So both sides are always asking for clarification.

I know a ton of people, after clubbing they go to drive-thru's to get a late night snack. I think that's one main reason fast food places have them. They can stay open 24/7.

That too. Some close their store except drive-thru.

As I used to work at Wendy's, let me just say the line up in the drive-thru is not always the crew's fault.

We can do an entire order (like a big combo meal) from start (asking the order) to finish (hand out the order) in average of 50 seconds, sometimes less. ONLY if the person knows exactly what he wants. So saying no biggie size, that's everything, put ketchup in the bag, etc. Most of the delay is people indecisive on their order, usually they pull up and then ask around "ok, what you guys want to order".

Also in all stores, they prioritize the drive-thrus. This is because the head office judges how well the store is performing by the average weekly times. So if an order at the front ask for a sandwich and then someone goes to the drive-thru and orders the same, it will go to the drive-thru even if the one at the counter orders first.

Most of the time you can't blame the customer to be indecisive. It is the problem of the restaurant. Why? They put the menu right at the spot where you order. They should have put more menu on the path so that people can make their decision earlier. You can't expect everyone memorize what the menu has (food, price, special of the day, etc). To be fair, I think Wendy does have menu on the path.

Not likely going to happen. We will counter this with better burning fuel and engines. The Insight is a great step forward. Put it in neutral and it's virtually off. That's brilliance! We need more hybrid technology to be affordable.

In reference to the Bladerunner movie, our ecosystem will slowly look like its former glory self as we desecrate the animals and plant life; or at the very least, help speed up the decline of it.

It's not a reason for existence.

It's a reason for extra cash. The business is there. So take advantage of it. Makes sense. Some McDonalds and Wendys have crazy line ups around 2am.
