Smart meters are rolling in my area. I just wonder how much electricity is used if I leave in computer on 24/24 regardless of any activities or even doing nothing.
Any inputs are really appreciated.
Thanks

I've heard you guys in Ottawa are able to borrow those Kill-A-Watt meter things from the local Library. Use that.

Can range anywhere from 50W to 150W when idle depending on what kind of system you have. Multiply that by how much you get charged per kWh by the elec. company and you have a minimum estimate.
Mine uses about 102W idle (doing absolutely nothing but BT) which comes to about $58 per year (or about 16 cents a day) according to BC Hydro residential rates.

Mine uses closer to 180 watts, counting the ADSL modem and router.
