Anyone know of a salon that does hair straightening for cheap in the north york, richmond hill or markham area?

I highly recommend that you do not get your hair chemically straightened. I had a salon turn me down. I have long healthy hair, and they said it would severely damage it. They told me the straightening process is mainly for African American people whose hair is tightly curled. Upkeep of the straightening is also expensive.

i know it will damage my hair but straightening it will still be healthier than using a flat iron everyday (which is what im doing right now).
i used to get it done at a place called vin salon (located in the same plaza as the new wasabi restaurant) but it shut down. they only charged $90 and did it pretty good so im looking for another place thats around that price but no more than $150.

I agree...don't do it. Give into the curls!! I spent over 20 years straightening and my hair is not at all the same!
Take a look here www.ouidad.com for alternatives for curls. I and my dd's go to the Salon in the GTA and couldn't be more pleased at all!!! I actually embrace my curls now!

real nice place to do it, my girl did it there, 'jung hair salon' just north of yonge/cummer(which is just north of yonge/finch), at the new plaza called "seoul plaza". Its on the second floor of the plaza, and its just below the-now-closed kfc. Im not sure how much it costs there but i do know they only use high quality everything. smallstore= big surprises!

False.
The salon told me the chemical straightening is much worse. She told me that within a few months, there would be so much damage that I would have to get a lot of my hair cut off. The flat iron damage is nothing compared to what the chemical straightening will do.
Seriously, the salon actually turned me down, they would've made almost $150 from me. I know it's a pain in the ass to constantly use the flat iron, but with my long locks, I'm not taking the chances.
If you decide to do this eventhough we're trying to advise you not too, I hope it goes well for you. Be sure to use high quality salon products with moisturizing.

I have had several hair straightening procedures done starting from 6 or 7 years ago, possibly one every 1.5 years, and they've worked wonders for my hair. I have thick puffy somewhat wavy hair (chinese) and I had to tie my hair up everyday back in the days and hated it. After I did my straightening, my hair has become soft, straight and shiny. I am not sure why everyone is giving such negative advice, but the ones I did was using the Japanese negative ion method that really works. Many of my friends have done it in chinese salons and they all look GREAT with no problems whatsoever. Keep in mind though that I still have to use a straightening iron. However, I find that everytime after I iron my hair, my hair actually looks shinier and silkier than before. I did my last three straightenings from the same place for about $150, the price varies depending on the length and I have pretty long hair.

thanks for your advice junk food junkie but i kind of agree with yan 84 even though im no hair expert. ive had my hair straightened about 4 to 5 times and each time it looks and feels a lot healthier (more shiny and smoother)
ive been using a flat iron everyday for about 5 months now and i can see that its damaging my hair more than chemically straightening it. i have soooo many split ends and my hair is really weak now (breaks off extremely easily)

I had my hair straigtened last year in China when I visited. I only did it since it was so cheap in China. I have to say my hair is very silky and smooth now :D If I could at a reasonable price I would straighten it but it costs me $800. I wouldn't suggest you do it a lot but say once a year isn't so bad. Just make sure you moisturize your hair a lot by using a good conditioner.

Sorry to bring a old thread back to life but does anybody else have any other suggestions as to where to go to get your hair straightened chemically? I'm going to TO at the end of the month and would like it done while I'm there. I'm looking for a salon that has more experience with the procedure than the salon I normally go to (which is just a couple times a year max). Plus I'm hoping it's cheaper in TO than what I was quoted too.

I get it done twice a year now at Metro Square's Simon's Image Design (I think that's what it's called in Eng) and I always get the hair dresser Tony to do it. I pay $180 plus $20 tip so that's $200. It's a Cantonese store. Metro Square is on steels and warden.

Do by any chance have their phone number so I can give them a call? Since they are a chinese salon how is Tony with haircuts? I like the layered chinese haircut I got in china:cheesygri since I'm getting "unsatisfied" with my current hairdresser:)
