View Full Version : How people break into Lockers

This is for informational use only to help you protect yourself from this scam.

Recently many lockers in my school have been robbed (mine being one) without the locks being broken. Once it was reported, the school checked the cameras and found out how it was done. This information was not released to the students because then there would be a string of robberies happening but the information was leaked to me by an anonymous. Apparently they will walk around the school (usually in between classes) and look for people with there locker already open with valuables inside. Once they find there victim, one of them will go up to them and talk to distract them. While the victim is being distracted another person will replace their lock with and identical lock..it just so happens my school provides the locks for students and they are all identical..once switched they will leave and wait for the victim to put their stuff in and lock their locker with the identical lock. Once the victim leaves they come back open it, take what they want and put the original lock back on. All a person has to do is go out and buy an identical lock and switch it with yours when your locker is already open so watch out. Try designing your lock for protection.

Well my lock was never a conventional Dudley one so their scam wouldn't work.

I guess you gotta' treat it like a beverage in public - never let it out of your sight! If someone wants to talk - lock it first.

Good warning - pretty elaborate scam.

what sort of "valuable" things do teenage kids keep in their lockers nowadays?

Off the top of my head: cellphones, iPods, digital cameras and CD players. Not to mention if a textbook is stolen (LOL I doubt it) but it would cost at least $60 to replace.

Well, you do have the occasional teacher that ensures that if it has a wire in it, you don't bring it to class. So, things such as MP3 players, cell phones, etc.

hint to all you people out there, when you undo your lock and then relock it, be sure to spin the dial. If you do not spin the dial, all you have to do to open it is set the dial back 5 numbers and it will open. It DOESNT ALWAYS work, but I would say about 25% of the time, which is more than enough, I know because I used to do it to the grade nines in highschool who didn't know any better.

teenagers these days put everything in their locker, valuables and tons of junk, the theives at my school carrry concealable bolt cutters, they can cut the lock off your locker in under 10 seconds. They will have no reason to break into your locker if you dont show off

The only really valuable thing I have is my PDA, which is on my belt. So, you'd have to:

A) Open the case, get your fingers in there, and take it out.
B) Yank like hell and get the case off the belt.

Both of which aren't very easy to do.

I have about $400 worth of stuff in my locker at times. My iPod, a cellphone I'm trying to sell and my textbooks (which I must pay for if I lose). First sem (until February 2nd) I have 2 classes in the morning and then I go to co-op. My school has implemented a locker rental (pay once and you get a locker which changes every year). All the locks are the exact same style and the office has a record of your combo (they issue you the locker and give you the combo) so that in case someone wants to bring a gun they can open the locker easily.

My friend goes to Laurier and they make you get you own lock and then on the first day of school the homeroom teacher passes a card and and you must print your name, Locker Number, and Locker combo.....second day off school they were stolen from the teachers desk.

I often leave my laptop in my locker. If Im not using it for that period, I stash it in my locker. Guess I wont be doing that any more.

I think I will engrave my name or something into the lock so I can feel its mine when I lock it. But lucky the lock I got from the school has its numbers smudged soI look for it every time I lock it.

people don't really need to steal "valuables" such as iPods, cell phones, or digi-cams, taking all their textbooks would probably cost them more than it would cost to get all 3 of those combined o.O

my discrete textbook is only like a few centimeters thick and it costs 70+

ridiculous.

I am not in school anymore but I do go to gym and need to use a locker. I had a combination lock, pretty generic. When I bought the lock, there was a price sticker. I did not tear that out well. Hence, there is an uneven ugly partial sticker stuck in the back. That was very useful because I often don't remember which locker I use. That is the ID.

However, that lock broke. That is I can't lock it anymore. I just use a key lock now and this actually is easier for me.

There are high schools that have special program that requires every student to have a laptop. I am not talking about private school.

If you pull down on a Dudley and strike the side that opens with a relatively hard object, it will open, or at least they used to...

Yes, I am in grade 9. (How does everyone know that? Maybe Im "big" like B40, remind me to get a life tomorrow. )

Yes, I bring it to school. Its useful in English and Business for PowerPoint presentations, Science for taking notes, and Drama for writing scrips.

No, I do not go to private school. Just a standard public high school.

Oh thank god my first class of high school was enriched english!!! Honestly because my locker was with all the other nerds my marks must have increased by 5%. If there was ever an easier way to get marks I don't know. Smart people surround them with smart people. Thankfully smart people in my school don't steal (they're usualy rich too).

and you make it seem as if the thiefs are doing it for just your misery and not their benefit.

Back when I was in high school, the way to break in to lockers was to use a heavy textbook, bound side down, and slam it into the lock right where the bars go in. Hard to do with a Dudley, but the cheap locks always popped right open.

Couple years back in my old school last day of exams the whole top floor of the school was Ripped open and pretty much every single locker was sniped.

i was on the second floor in the drama room talking to the teacher when i heard the OAC's go up the stairs only to find there lockers ripped apart.

it was too late to do anything really since it was the last exam of the semester and most people left but i do remember about 100 very pissed off people with no wallets /cellphones /valueables left talking to the vice principal and teachers about it .

from personal experience i never left much in my locker some spare change for drinks/coffee in college , some binders and lined paper and some books i didnt really need. that and a sturdy lock never gave me problems.

For some locks you can narrow down and figure out what the last number is..then there's an algorithm that has all the possibilities according to that last number. Then you just try all of them.... I'm sure it's all over google.

I remember in grade 8, I opened my locker one day to find it COMPLETELY cleaned out. Empty, not a thing in it.

Turns out, my locker partner had been sharing lockers with about five other people. Not exactly allowed.

I don't understand why you would have anything valuable in your locker except textbooks.. if you have any electronics, you should keep them with you at all times, otherwise, don't even bring it - you don't need it.

If you have a teacher that allows an MP3 Player while you work, it's nice to have. I find it helps me concentrate. Then, there's some cases where you have half an hour to kill (ex. Finished something early), and you can't really talk to anyone else. I try my best to avoid the person at the other end of the room hearing it, though.

But what I'm saying is, even if you aren't allowed to use it during class, keep it with you anyways, not in your locker. Why couldn't you just keep valuables with you even if you aren't allowed to use it?

i don't understand why people can't keep valuables in their pockets either.. my friend puts his DS in his locker and i always ask him why he just doesn't carry it around in his bag. i mean i understand that if it's in ur pocket it might be a bit big, but in ur bag it's fine isn't it? less chance of losing it since u have ur bag with u always rather than in ur locker, where u only go to after / before every period.
