Not bad. I'm inclined to get the enhanced ones though (if I ever get them at all, that is :)).

Just read at Digital Bits that there will be an HD DVD/DVD set coming out near the end of 2007. I would imagine this will be the enhanced versions.

Yes that's true but at least these are the originals before they were "George Lucased."
Great deal!
Too bad Best Buy does not PM Costco.

BTW, just so people are aware, the video quality is fairly questionable across all 3 seasons. It's fairly scratchy, grainy and you'll see the occasional tear in the film, etc. There was probably zero restoration work performed.
Some episodes are better than others but if you're expecting perfect video quality, you'd better take a pass.

Considering the source material and age...I think grainy is pretty much a given.

I can confirm they are also available at the new Downtown Vancouver Costco for $46.99 each season. I paid over $300 for my set when they first came out. It was over $400.00 originally at FS when they first came out.

Don't compare it to George Lucas (the loser). For Star Trek, they "upgraded" the special effects while being true to the original. Georgie-boy did brand new special effects and changed the story. Not everything in the new versions of Star Wars was bad. For example, changing the Emperor in Jedi so that it matched the first three movies was fine.
For Star Trek, I see it like making a mono soundtrack into stereo, or stereo into 5.1.

While I agree that the new versions do look as though they are not out of place, I still enjoy the original versions. It's definately worth to pick up this dvd set if they dont' release the original versions again.

Without a doubt they will release another version of the original Star Trek, maybe on Blu-ray. They have being doing re-releases forever on the James Bond movies and the Star War franchise and many other films. They keep repackaging them by throwing a few more "extra"s or "remastering". Another example is the Twilight Zone tv series, which they keep repackaging over and over again.

I too was leery of the idea of remastering the original series, but after watching a couple episodes, I'm convinced. The colour is amazing, and everything looks so much sharper. The only time you're aware of any tampering is some of the planet shots (from orbit), where there is way more detail than there could have been in the 60's. They must have have been edited for pacing as well, because they just seem to flow smoother now.
Definitely gonna wait til they come out on HD-DVD.

Here's an article on the new high definition release of Star Trek later this year:

It'll be interesting if the HD DVD discs are going to be in widescreen, which was what I was hearing when the enhanced project was first announced.

Doubtful, since it was filmed for television and all the ones I've seen so far have been 4:3. I prefer they don't mess with the aspect ratio, thank you.
