Thanks, OP, I need new radials before snow comes down heavy. I assume that Canadian Costco membership works in US and that I can get road hazard repairs and tire rotations done on this side of the border?

I did call costco US and they said we can use membership card to go in any costco store in the world. So they should be ok.

I have no clue what your first sentence means? As for the second, no one cares because for others it is a great deal.

Thanks op. :)

Do you know if you need to have your costco card for post sale things like tire rotation/flat fix etc? I'm never around but my lazy brother could do that for me - could he go in for me without a card?

You do know that tires in the US are 1/2 to 2/3 the price of identical tires in Canada right?

Ya, I've noticed that. What's the deal with that?
Identical Tires at 1/2 the price. I've been quoted $285 CDN or $135 US for the same tire!!!

This has been like this for years. I remember about 15 years ago some guy had set up a dyno like roller with BBQ style brushes to 'erase' the paint on the tires. That way Canucks could get tires installed on their cars and not pay duty on the way back. There were always cars lined up to pay $10 and get their paint removed....

Paint on the tires? I didn't know there was paint on brand new tires??? I guess I never noticed when I bought new tires!

I guess he's referring to the old days where many tires had white sidewalls. They've kind of gone out of style, most tires have Black Sidewals now so there is no paint to be removed.

There is however, usually a blue stripe between two of the tread blocks on each tire.

A customs guy/gal can spot that right away too. Maybe that's what he is referring to.

Anyway of getting rid of those so that they can't spot that?

As long as you stay out of Quebec you should be fine...

Easy, drove into the roadside for 30 yard and back to the road. No one will find those are brand new tires....Only in this season.

Anyone know what the duty is on tires?

consumerPI
Jan 25th, 2007, 10:41 AM
Depends on where they were manufactured. North American made = 0%, but you still have to pay taxes (gst/pst) - 14%.

Anyone know what the duty is on tires?
