I think he referred to "Circuit Breaker" in this case.
That panasonic charger + battery set has been reduced to 20 or 30ish several times in previous Circuit Breaker

The Panasonic (http://www.thesourcecc.com/estore/Product.aspx?language=en-CA&catalog=Online&category=Battery+Chargers&product=2318393) bundle that was on circuit breaker deal several days ago was only $28 ($2 more) but it can charge 4 AA's at the same time. It also has separate charging circuit for each battery so that you can charge single or 3 AA's instead of 2 or 4 AA's. It also comes with 2 C's and D's cell adapters.

I bought the Factory Direct 15min charger and have charged the batteries once .. they are still going after 200 pics, a video and tonnes of picture reviews. I bought two of the 15 mins chargers so that I can have 4 AA's, still cheaper then what selling outside IMO. They were selling for $18 at the time. They are RC-3 Nimh but very good, regular NIMH batteries charge over night.

I am more interested in the new NiMH battery type like the Sanyo Eneloop or Panasonic R2/Infinium. It is claimed to have such a low discharge rate so that in 2 months it still retains most of its charge. Instead of charging the batteries just before using, you can have standby batteries in the device all the time. Now devices with AA/AAA batteries behave just like devices with Lithium Ion ones.

There is such little difference between NiMH chargers that they are all the same to us consumers. One charger might charge the battery more but shorten its life, while another might charge it less but extend its life. By pretty much insignificant amounts.
So get the cheapest charger you can get, I say!
I bought a 4xAA Radio Shack charger at XSCargo for $10.

I've had it for 2-3 years and it works awsome. I mainly use mine for cameras and xmods but hook it up to a inverter in a car and it works awsome for trips too. I can take about 500 pictures and some videos on my fuji camera before they die.

they are noisy (comes with fan),
It's such a small fan, you can barely hear it. Computer fans are louder. Besides, it's only for 15 minutes.
easy to overheat (i guess)
No it doesn't. That's what the fan is for.
and not all batteries compatible.
You can charge any NiMH batteries in the charger. But only the 15 minute ones will charge in 15 minutes.

Agreed. 15 min. chargers are better than the regular ones which would charge over 1 to 4 hours.
XSCargo at Kennedy Rd., Scarborough is selling the Rayovac for $29.99 which is a very god price. They got some units last Sunday.
I bought the Sony 15 min. one at Pacific Mall for $50.00 over a year ago.
It works perfect and fast.
( I think most of these 15 min. type charger are from the same OEM.
It's just that the Rayovac has a slightly different design than the Sony or Energizer ones. )
Just my 2 cents.

You would have to reconsider when:
0. you need it to stop charging automatically when complete
1. you need to charge batteries sets of 1 or 3.
2. you need to charge cells at different discharge state at the same time
3. you run down all your batt but you will need it in a short time
4. or may be you need the battery charged while you sleep (chances are I won't be doing 13 hrs sleep on days when I need batteries)
5. you need to charge in a vehicle during short trips
6. you have couple sets of batteries to charge yet only 1 charger
7. you are charging at a public place (e.g. airport)
...
Use the 15min for the unexpected, 2-5hr chargers are gentle enough to NiMH

It's just that the Rayovac has a slightly different design than the Sony or Energizer ones
Rayovac 15min IC3 system is proprietary, you have to use their IC3 battery on their IC3 charger to get the claimed 15min charge, the IC3 charger becomes an overnight charger if you put non-IC3 battery in there.

You can charge any NiMH batteries in the charger. But only the 15 minute ones will charge in 15 minutes. That may be true for the Rayovac chargers but the 15-min chargers from Energizer will work on any NiMH battery.

From what I can see, the eneloop still has a nice negative delta V in the charge curve.

I suggest getting a 1hr Fast Charger for NiMH.
High End Charger also provide Independent charging
circuit for each batt. This will give your batt better
protection & give them more charge cycle!
Don't save few dollars but shorten your batt charge
cycle!

Probably not. The Panasonic R2 bundle sold in Futureshop comes with the same BQ-390 charger bundled with the regular 2300 mah NiMH and I have not heard from the forums that special charger is needed.
