If I put a HUB directly after the modem, and the HUB connects two computers, so both computer could get unique IP.

you would have to "PAY" for the secondary IP, otherwise the rogers DHCP server will not "ISSUE" your second computer an IP. Simple as that.

place a "router" after the modem

then you can have 253 computers connecting :-)

keep an eye out for my BST posts - i will have routers for sale soon nice and cheap

You can *buy* additional WAN IP addresses from Rogers if you really need to.

Connecting computers directly to the cable/DSL modem .... Make very sure you have very strong virus and spyware protection software running on your system. For normal setup, I suggest you add a router inbetween.

and for those wondering, routers are dirt cheap.... no need to be a even cheaper by buying outdated hubs
