I'm having trouble with my 4g 20gb ipod.

Everytime I plug it in, iTunes freezes and won't recognize the ipod. It comes up in My Computer as Drive F:, but I can't do anything because everytime I click on the drive, My Computer freezes.

Is there any way to restore the ipod outside of iTunes? I've tried resetting it, and I've tried going into disk mode, but it keeps doing the same thing. I managed to erase all of the songs off the ipod since I thought it was one of the songs that were causing the computer to freeze. However, in the information, the capacity shows up as 18.5gb but the available space shows up as 17.6gb, even though it lists as having 0 songs. Keep in mind this is not a photo or video ipod, and I've never had anything other than songs on there. Is there something on the ipod?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try using ephpod instead (http://www.ephpod.com/). It's an alternative to itunes. Also try another computer, and maybe try another ipod to see if its your unit thats causing the problem. If it is, hope you still have warranty on it. Good luck.
