Hi Everyone, out of mere curiosity I bought a few different kinds of 2GB SD Cards and a Sandisk SDDR99 V4 Card Reader to do a speed comparison using SiSoft Sandra.

Sandra outputs alot of results so below I've included the overall result and the 2MB File Transfer result for the cards I tested, I figure this most resembles the performance in a digital camera.

Summary (Read / Write)
Canon 16MB (24x / 9x)
ATP Promax 2GB (114x / 83x)
Lexar 2GB SD (103x / 14x)
PNY 2GB SD (81x / 32x)
Kingston 2GB SD (82x / 32x)

Updated the PNY results... Ive come to the conclusion that the PNY and the Kingston cards are the exact same... they look the same, the logo printing on the front is the same, the colours are the same, the serial codes on the back are very similar.

Updated the ATP ProMax results as well, after a format of the card the write speed for 2MB transfers jumped from 27x to 83x and the read speed jumped from 114x to 118x

nice work.

Wish I had the cash to pass the time like this :)

Anyone know how the regular (ie. non-Extreme) Sandisk 2GB SD card would compare? Would it be close/near the Kingston/PNY?

I figure this most resembles the performance in a digital camera.

But it's very camera dependent. For instance your high performance dSLR will probably beable to write MUCH faster than say your cheap P&S.

This guy has a HUGE database, much larger than yours, and compares various higher end digital SLRs with various types of media:
